Our grand-daughter who is working as au pair took us to all the authentic Paris bistros and eateries. So we dined in back streets in tiny little rooms that were so intimate and with the food that real people cook - it was like visiting family you never knew you had.

We mostly used the metro and walked, and used a couple of Bolt taxis, to get around. We visited the Musee D'Orsay, Versailles, Malmaison, Musee de Cluny, Les Invalides, and went to the opera at the Opera Bastille. Thoroughly enjoyed all of them, in particular that Malmaison was quiet with far fewer visitors than Versailles, which was busy as always. We booked some restaurants and had some excellent dinners.

Utilize the hop on bus it takes you everywhere!
Utilize the hop on bus it takes you everywhere! (I used Toot bus) . I used it as I would public transportation. Palace of Versailles is overrated. The Eiffel tower is always fabulous, and the Latin quarter is underrated. The Latin quarter is the perfect place to stay. The people are just so nice- I really enjoyed myself a lot more this time around. They really are so well organized at the popular sites. Wi-Fi is horrible especially out of Paris (i.e. Versailles), so have a plan B for cabs and uber. they are a tad expensive. the Louvre is amazing, and the Paris catacombs are really cool, have a crepe they are yummy.
I...personally think ...few...actual DAYS..to relax..enjoy your "neighborhood". for ME...Marais is perfection..
THEN...go DO all the things "they say you must"...
I got so perfectly relaxed...I woke at dawn...to see Seine at Sunrise...walked 8kilometers past Notre Dame..to go to Eiffel Tower...then Louvre.
TAKE YOUR TIME... 7-10 days is perfect.

Paris is a beautiful city, vibrant and clean (especially after the Olympics).
Hotel accommodation is pricy but there are plenty of choices to fit your wallet.
Cuisine and night life activities are spectacular, with locals and tourists mingling happily with one another.
Parisien look less grumpier and are more friendly than before.
But they are the souls of the city and even that is wonderful.
I love Paris and Parisien.

One of the greatest cities in the world.
One of the greatest cities in the world. It gets crowded even in non-touristy season. Make sure to get your reservations early for museums and other attractions. It's fun to be spontaneous, but there are some must sees you don't want to miss.

For such a central location, I think the price we paid was worth it. There were much cheaper options outside the city centre but we thought the convenience of being in such a central and lively part of town was worth it. The room was small as is in every typical hotel room in Paris. But it was clean, had comfy beds, a nice window and view and airconditioning, which we needed the most when we went in the summer. They also have free luggage storage and breakfast for an additional fee (restaurant was at the ground floor).
It's a nice hotel for the very reasonable price. The check-in staff were friendly and the beds were comfy. The restaurant area was clean and there was loads of choice for breakfast, which was really tasty. They staff looked after our baggage for us until we left France a few hours after check-in, which was a big help as we didn't want to leave valuables in the cars.
The Metro was only a ten minute walk which is really handy for getting to the centre of Paris and this was a pleasant walk.
Loved our stay at Hotel Gustave. We had an AMAZING view of the Eiffel Tower from our room! Probably the cheapest hotel I could find with a view like it. Our room was very clean and a decent size for Paris standards. Staff were friendly and there was welcome cake/tea in the foyer which was a nice touch. There are 2 metro stations close by, an easy walk to/from the hotel. Had to use the metro to get to most of the main attractions.
The hotel is quite close to Gare Du Nord, about a 12 minute walk. It also has two metro stations on the same road.
It is also really close to Sacre Coeur. I walked from the hotel to all the major sithgt in Paris, so
The hotel was very cheap for Paris, and the reception staff were really nice. I forgot my adaptor and they lent me a plug each night to charge my phone.
