All the staff from reception, cleaning and restaurant were friendly and helpful. The communication from the hotel was excellent and helped with recommendations for a restaurant to book a meal for my wife's birthday, the hotel also added an extra touch to the room to celebrate the birthday. It has an excellent location just opposite the old town entrance, and thanks to the hotel's website I found I had free travel on the buses and trams. This could be used as a airport transfer using the number 50 then 30 bus to the bus stop opposite the hotel. We would definitely stay again.

Very pleasant spacious room with an extremely comfortable bed and nice toiletries. The staff couldn’t have been more helpful and spoke excellent English. The free Basel pass was great and gave us free transport on the trams and discounts admissions to museums.

The Hotel Spalentor is ideally situated a short walk from the very centre of the city, with plenty of great bars and restaurants in easy reach. The Botanic Gardens are opposite, and make for a great escape.
Second time staying at Spalentor. The hotel is on a busy junction so you'd hear trams, honks and sirens, but with windows closed it's fairly quiet for a good night sleep. Rooms are very spacious, all equipment is modern, and it feels like the owners are taking care of the place and guests.
The hotel is located next to the Old City Gate of Spalentor and the Botanical Garden of the University of Basel, with excellent scenery and good security. The staff's service is very good. Although the hotel is not big, the service is definitely four-star.
