It was very expensive for a family of 4 to take the cable up but worth it. Unfortunately we travelled in Aril and the 1 hour walk to view the lake was frozen so we couldn't take in the magical view. Extremely expensive city and I found the people not friendly or helpful. Its a small village with the beautifu feel of nature and mountains but unfortunately I was looking for a Doctor and we had to drive 1 hour to Interlaken for help.

When up the mountain, walk to a lake that is approx 1h , we had 4 young kids and they copped the walk very well. Plan to have a picnic lunch in the lake, kids were very busy looking for frogs close in the lake's edge. You can also find cows along the path and an amazing view of the mountains which made the walk a very nice experience.

Very helpful staff, comfortable room with amazing views from the balcony. Great location- quiet area up on a hill with incredible views, but still very close walk to the main street and First gondola. Plus, convenient local bus (free with a visitor pass from the hotel) very closeby, to go to the main train station
Fantastic hotel - great location on Grindlewald (right by the First gondola)
Food in hotel really good - breakfast was amazing and we had an excellent dinner in the restaurant.
We had the suite and it was incredible with the comfiest of beds.
Spa and pool are amazing
Really good place with nice views. Bus in front of the hotel and they give us a card for free bus rides to Grindelwald and other discounts of the region, like the Firstbahn. The room was very big, with two floors that have a sofa and a other bed in the superior floor. Nice staff.
Location is good, right in front of First gondola.
Cheaper than other hotels nearby, but it works more like a youth hostel than a proper hotel.
It was quiet during the night.
The property faces Eiger (mountain/glacier) and having breakfast facing this every morning while the FIRST gondolas pass by and paragliders land on the field next to the hotel is pure Swiss magic. The location bypasses the town buzzing with tourists as it sits 100 meters in elevation above the town- avoiding the congestion of a popular destination. It does however have a walking path into town but, coming back up could be challenging if you’re tired. By the way, we did enjoy the pavlova dessert at the hotel restaurant!
Our room was spacious, with a modern bathroom and perfectly clean. For us the location was ideal since we only were able to stay one night. The First gondola was just behind the hotel.
It is a unique hotel located right next to the Gondola station to Grindelwald First. It has traditional Switzerland style interriors. The room was large and clean. Also the breakfast which is included in the fee was spectacular and people were very kind. You can also have lunch and dinner at Restaurant alte post in front of the hotel at a reasonable price.
What a great stay! From the first step into the hotel until we left we felt absolutely comfortable and looked after. The breakfast was fantastic, the service superb and both restaurants were just amazing. This hotel is a true treasure and we would go back any time. Small things like a complementary glass of Swiss sparkling wine when Switzerland won a gold medal at the Olympics to a small gift when we left make a great stay fantastic. Highly recommended!
I have stayed at the hotel several times before but this was the first time in the apartments and it was fantastic!! The kids loved the bunk beds and we will definitely return to stay here again.

Go to First!
Go to First! Do the First-flyer, it's really not that scary(as I quite have a hypophobia) as it's not a free-fall activity. You should definitely hike to the lake from First station.
