Buckden
In the Cambridgeshire village of Buckden, this Inn dates back to 1492 and is full of original features. The bar and restaurant have open fires, wooden beams and seasonal food.
The Lion’s bright, airy rooms each have a TV and free tea and coffee facilities. All rooms also have traditional décor, and a private bathroom.
If you would like to stay in a traditional, cosy pub near Cambridge, this is the place. The house dates back to the 15th century and is now lovingly run by a young family. The rooms are comfortable and the food, especially the English breakfast, is also very good. A much better alternative to an expensive, modern hotel in the city.
You can park right outside the door.
St Ives
With a thatched roof and white stone walls, The Old Ferry Boat is considered England’s oldest inn. Overlooking the Great Ouse River, the rooms are tastefully furnished and have free Wi-Fi.
The Old Ferry Boat was built in Anglo Saxon times. Historical documents record that liquor was sold here as early as 560 AD but the foundations are thought to be a century older.
This is a gem and a beautiful location, with good food. Breakfast inclused in the stay, again good value.

A delightful setting and good value out of racing season. Comfortable rooms and can get proper food at dinner time!
I enjoyed the dinner.
staff, breakfast room and dinner all v good
Location was great, handy for Santa Pod Raceway, 30 minutes away. Great rural location, with horses in the paddocks. Pub/restaurant over the road. We had dinner there one night, it was great.
Staff very helpful and friendly could do enough to make ones stay pleasant. Typical medieval building/inn nothing level but that is what you expect from a very old building. Decor was good and all clean. had a Four poster bed and a really large bath with shower. tea and coffee in the room and tv. Breakfast, I had continental, cereal, juice tea or coffee fresh fruit and toast. All good for me. One could have a cooked breakfast if required.
Bed was good size and comfy; bathroom was fine. Dinner was very nice and staff were quick, efficient and friendly.
Breakfast was excellent, room was small but clean with an excellent shower. The location was rural which is what we wanted. All in all a very pleasant stay, in a very historic inn. Already booked for a months time.
Only its FUTURE potential, based on its historic past, and a return to the welcoming and historic Inn it once was a number of years ago.
