This hotel dates from the Tudor period, but the inside reflects the very best in modern design. It is featured in the film Four Weddings and a Funeral, as well as the TV show Midsomer Murders.

There are only a few rooms above this pub/restaurant and our family had booked all of the rooms for the weekend for a family wedding. It’s a quaint picturesque thatched property with low beams and compact small rooms.
On arrival we were shown to our rooms and it was fully explained where fire exit was (and shown), times for breakfast and how to access teas and coffees (out of hours)
All of the staff and the owners were brilliant, accommodating our party/family going above and beyond. We needed an iron and ironing board (which aren’t in the room) but were made available for us. We were told anything at all that we needed we just had to ask and they would accommodate (thank you so much for finding a safety pin!)
If you need a tea or coffee out of hours there is a table downstairs which was excellent as there are so many walks (some on quite busy roads but sticking to the verges was safe) we walked to the National Trust, Cathedral Park which was lovely (the sun was shining!)
The breakfast was really good, We all had leisurely time together and it’s an excellent idea to ask what time we would come (each room) as it extended (when you have time) the time together (in a large group) as we were all sat at the same table. There was a wide variety of choice and it’s easier to say what you don’t want than what you do want. The staff and food excel at the Hunting Lodge in making the time spent there so much better than a big corporate hotel in our opinion.
We all had a family meal (the night before) in the function room (planned in advance with non residents also attending). The food was very good, really tasty, we asked for ‘blue’ steaks and it is not very often that they are cooked to perfection in the way we like. We also really liked that as far as possible all the food and drink is locally sourced. The location was perfect for us and we always had a designated driver to get where we wanted to go or booked a taxi (well in advance).
Offering a restaurant, Englands Rose is located in Thame. Free WiFi access is available. Each room here will provide you with an en suite bathroom, a flat-screen TV and tea/coffee making facilities.

We visited Englands rose to split a long journey, hence only staying the one night. The owner could not have been any more accommodating. We were running very late and were way past the check-in time. They very kindly waited for us even though they were shattered after a very busy days work.
The room was clean and comfortable with tea and coffee facilities. We were gutted that we had missed the bar as it looked lovely with many historical features.
We hadn't booked breakfast(hadn't realised we could). The owner again accommodated our needs and cooked us a full breakfast.....and at a time that suited us. Just a note: if you have any dietary needs, let them know, we forgot to mention that one of our party was vegetarian. Completely an ommission on our part, yet a vegetarian breakfast appeared 😋
We will have to visit again 👍

Staff were very helpful and food good quality and good value
Perfect for rustic breaks in the countryside, an Inn is a small property with basic hotel services and typically traditional decor. Inns are fully licensed and have a bar providing food and drinks in the evening, which distinguishes them from country or guest houses.
This old coaching inn was tastefully refurbished with accommodation in the original stables & coach house etc. Everything needed was supplied free in our room. This included chilled water & milk in a wall fridge; a coffee machine: chocolates & a bottle of delicious sloe gin, to help yourself to. A fan was already on before our arrival because it was a very hot day. Breakfast was delicious & extremely good. Lovely having freshly baked bread to toast.
Lovely old coaching inn. Great pub, good food and comfortable rooms. But it’s the little thoughtful touches like a decanter of whisky to help yourself to a free nightcap and the helpful and friendly staff that made this special. Highly recommend.
Wow! Slow gin in your room for a night cap, bubble bath and a rubber duck for your bath! So much character in the whole old coach inn to admire! Dinner and breakfast delicious! Coffee bags and bottles of milk. Furnishings very comfortable! Would defiantly stay again!
Very charming historic building. Good parking area, secluded, which we needed for our classic cars. Staff very helfpul and friendly. Had set up a table inside but no problem changing it to outside. Inside a charming dining area. Outside nice and quiet space to sit for drinks and eat. Of course no elevator or aircondition, if you want that do not go to historic inns.
Historic Inn, really well refurbished in the centre of town. Plenty of parking, rooms compact but ready we’ll equipped e.g smart TV and radio, airblade fans and complimentary sloe gin. Food and service were both good, especially the breakfast which had plenty of choice for vegetarians.
