We were atttending a funeral and were allowed to check in early, which was much appreciated after travelling for 5 hours. The staff were very friendly, as were the locals. The breakfast was great, we chose a full English and smoked salmon with scrambled eggs on toast, very good coffee too.

My wife liked it because the bedroom was hot. It was like an oven. We could have turned the radiator off, but in winter it was nice to not be cold. Staff were great.

The George Inn is extraordinarily historic and therefore fascinating. Its perfectly placed in the centre of the pretty well kept village of Mere which is interesting in itself. The staff made us feel very welcome and were attentive and kind. The food was excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed both dinner and breakfast.

Enjoyed a really nice overnight stay at The George, which was perfectly located for our visit to Stourhead Christmas Lights. The Room was lovely with very comfy bed and great shower. Even though kitchen was closed we were given sandwiches on arrival, a welcome meal after a long drive. Breakfast was also excellent. Staff were very pleasant and friendly especially Anna who was lovely. Will definitely return and highly recommend this Inn.

It is a beautiful 16th century building with tons of character. Huge fireplace and decorated lovely for Christmas. The food was excellent. We stayed there for 1 night and had lunch and Christmas dinner in the evening. Staff very attentive and friendly. There was plenty of choice for breakfast and I like a china teapot as opposed to cheap staintless steel ones that leak everywhere. The original floor in the bar area and its huge fireplace took you back to when King Charles II dined there. May have sat where he sat!

Good renovation with comfortable well appointed rooms in historic Inn in quiet village. Hot water was scalding hot and if left unadjusted could result in a burn. We mentioned this to the proprietor. Our bedroom had a modern roll top bath set in the middle of the bathroom without any grab rails or support, not ideal for older couples and, for us, unusable. We were told by cleaning staff that four of seven rooms had showers not baths.
