This holy city is located in western Saudi Arabia and is also known as Makkah. It is one of the Five Pillars of Islam to make a pilgrimage here, and therefore is a destination for millions of Muslims each year. Prophet Muhammad was born here and it is a sacred place for Muslims and the birthplace of Islam.
Non-muslims are not permitted into Mecca and the government of Saudi Arabia issues special visas for people making the pilgrimage. Most people coming to the Mecca will enter via the Hajj Terminal at King Abdulaziz International Airport and Jeddah is the gateway to the city.
The Hajj has a fairly set itinerary including a visit to the Sacred Mosque, al-Masjid al-Haram, built around the Kaaba. Mecca contains many restaurants with varied cuisine and tea shops are available for light refreshments such as traditional tea and cookies. There are also many juice stands for a little refreshment amid the heat. Ranging from luxury hotels to basic accommodations, Booking.com offers over 80 hotels for your time in Mecca.

Makkah, the heart of the Islamic world, is a truly remarkable city that offers a unique blend of spirituality, culture, and history. From the moment you arrive, you can feel the deep sense of reverence that permeates the atmosphere. The iconic Kaaba, located within the Masjid al-Haram, is a breathtaking sight. Standing before it during prayer times is a profound experience, as you are surrounded by thousands of fellow pilgrims, all united in faith.
The city is well-equipped to handle the millions of visitors it receives each year. The accommodations range from luxurious hotels to budget options, ensuring that every traveler finds a suitable place to stay. The local cuisine is also a delight; the food stalls and restaurants offer a variety of traditional dishes, making it a gastronomic adventure as well.
Walking through the bustling streets of Makkah, you can appreciate the rich history and cultural significance of the city. The experience of performing Umrah or Hajj is truly life-changing, providing a deep sense of connection to one's faith and to fellow Muslims from around the world.
While the heat can be intense, especially during the summer months, the city's modern infrastructure, including air-conditioned public spaces, makes it manageable. The hospitality of the local people adds to the warmth of the experience, making visitors feel welcomed and valued.
Overall, Makkah is more than just a destination; it’s a pilgrimage that nourishes the soul. I highly recommend visiting, whether for spiritual growth or to witness the extraordinary cultural tapestry that defines this sacred city.

If ur not there for Umrah or Hajj there isnt much to do.. food can be a problem and most of the restaurants around alharam are junk food. In tge main street alot of shops are closed but thats due to the new expansion as the taxi driver told me. The train station is very clean and convenient, perfect timing every time

Planning your stay in Mecca would be the decisive factor of how pleasant your trip to Mecca would be. However most people would prefer spending most of their time at the grand mosque (Haram), there are other things to do around there. Apart from going to cafes or eating at restaurants in and around the clock tower, you can go to Jabal Al-Nour and climb it if you are able to do so. Many other places in Mecca show the historic and islamic heritage. For solo travellers like myself, I recommend these activities. You also need to consider parking if you drive to Mecca like I did. It is too challenging to find free-parking spots near your hotel and around Haram. However, there are public parking areas like Kuday where you can park your car and flag a taxi to the hotel. Hotel parking in most hotels is not practical as they could be too tight and expect dents either made by you or other cars, so I would recommend against it unless the hotel you are going to check-in provides excellent parking. Taxis would charge you between 10 and 20 SAR around Haram. If you plan to perform more than one Ummrah, you will need to go to Al-Sha'air (Masjid Aisha) to do Ihram from there. Taxis would charge you between 40 and 50 SAR in total for a round trip. Don't spend all your time there around Haram, make use of Mecca's public buses. For public buses, if your phone has NFC, you can download the app, top up credit to pay. Public bus fares are inexpensive, 4 SAR, and they cover every bit where you would need to go. Solo travellers can also benefit from the fact that Taif is not far from Mecca, so you can go spend a day in Taif, Haada, Shaffa area where Dakka mountain is. This could be a good breather during hot days.

This was the only hotel with reasonable price, at walking distance from Haram. All other hotels near Haram had very very high and unrealistic prices. In Ramadan.
Hotel staff was very nice and very polite, brothers from Sudan. But no English at all.
Hotel was clean. But rooms are small.
For young people it's easy walk.
At this price, it was very nice hotel.
Jabal Omar Marriott is 3 minutes by bus near Haram. Suttle bus trips drives you near Haram but hotel stay is not encouraging. A closer place would encourage one more to attend most of prayers. Hotel dining is somehow poor quality.
Cheap and best hotel near Haram 10-15 walk away only all shops available on the way to Haram
Upon my request they even upgraded my room to a 5 bed room free of cost
