FAQs about hotels in Oslo

Into the Wild in Oslo

Spreading for hundreds of miles from the mouth of the Oslofjord, Oslo is the largest city by area in Europe and is liberally covered in pristine forests rising up into the outlying hills. South of the unassuming city hall lies a vibrant waterfront known as Aker Brygge, which in summer is full of bustling outdoor restaurants and bars.

For the prettiest buildings head to affluent inner-city suburbs of Frogner and Fagerborg, or admire the traditional Scandinavian wooden houses of Bygdøy and Holmenkollen. Monumental buildings include the Royal Palace which runs daily tours and the Akershus Festning, which is a medieval castle that also served as a military base and provides impressive views of the Oslofjord. Oslo City Hall, or rådhus, offers even more distinctive architecture and it is the location of the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony.

Nature is never far away in Oslo which is ringed by an archipelago of islands which are extremely popular in summer. Hiking, kayaking and sailing are all easily achievable within the city limits. Just as popular are the many museums. The national Museum houses Edvard Munch’s famous painting The Scream and Viking Ship Museum containing long-lost relics from Norway’s Viking past.

From downtown Sentrum to the Oslo Airport Gardermoen to the stunning statues in Frogner Park, Booking.com has over 80 hotels and other accommodations available.

This time, we chose to visit the Vigeland park, the most convenient public transportation mode was a tram because it also passed by the harbour and beautiful streets and blocks of centennial dwelling houses. Grounds of the park are vast and worth a slow and cosy walk around the paths on a sunny but already cold weekend. On the way back, we discovered and walked through Christiania Torv district with ancient houses and cosy places to have a meal or drink. Floating saunas on the opposite bank to the Oslo Opera house are amazing. Where can on have a sauna treat on water in front of an architectural beauty? Best views guaranteed.

The city is beautiful, clean, safe, quiet and surrounded with nature everywhere (parks, green areas etc.). The public transport is usually punctual, I would suggest affording the Oslo pass( as you get free public transport and excess to 30 museum with it.

Oslo has a lot to offer for 2-4 days. There are many museums and historical sights and good public transit to more natural surroundings. The fjord location makes a variety of water sports close at hand. Weather can be variable, so plan to be flexible and always have a raincoat.

The location is about a 20-30 min walk from the centre, but we knew this and we booked this on purpose, as I had read that Oslo city centre can be quite noisy in the evenings especially at the weekends and as our trip was over a Thursday / Friday / Saturday night stay, this is the reason we opted for this hotel. If you don't want to walk, there is a very good tram system to use to get around. The hotel was good, had a nice boutique feel to it and the breakfast was excellent with a large selection of very good quality items!
