Vegan Minshuku Sanbiki Neko is a fully vegan Japanese style bed & breakfast accommodation. Completed in 2018, the Hotel is a modern building with traditional Japanese style elements including tatami flooring, shoji screens, and futon bedding. Each room has substantial luggage storage space, and an ensuite bathroom with a shower and bath. A cooked Japanese style vegan breakfast using local organic seasonal produce, where possible, is included, along with unlimited tea and coffee and a selection of plant-based milks. Breakfasts are served in a communal dining room, where you can meet other like minded travellers. The building was designed based on the owners’ Japan travels and ryokan stays, to provide guests with the experience of Japanese style accommodation with cruelty-free and sustainable amenities.
Your Australian hosts, Helen and Craig, have both been living a plant-based life for over 30 years; initially as vegetarians and currently as vegans for over five years. The decision to create this business came about because of a shared love of Japan, and the desire to provide other vegans and vegetarians a safe, friendly and understanding environment. Of course everyone is welcome to try their hospitality. A love of cooking and serving delicious vegan meals for their friends and family has helped to build a business around providing excellent food and service. Tap into their local knowledge to find suitable places to eat other meals when planning your daily itinerary.
Vegan Minshuku Sanbiki Neko is located in a quiet suburban neighbourhood in the eastern foothills of Kyoto, around 3km from the city centre and close to public transport. Surrounded by temples and shrines, there are many attractions within 20 minutes walk from the front door. These include Kiyomizu-dera, Sanjusangendo, Tofukuji and the Kyoto National Museum. Fushimi Inari is slightly further away, being either a very pleasant 30 minute walk, or a short train ride. There are a variety of restaurants that are vegan friendly and fully vegan between our ryokan and the city centre.
