Welcome to Thistle Dream, our cherished canal boat. Whether you want an unusual place to stay or simply a great base, this static boat provides all the creature comforts of a house. Here you will have complete privacy as you are renting out the entire boat. The two cabins accommodate 2 people each, whilst the sofa bed is more suitable for children and can sleep 2 people. Because we are on a pretty canal and not moored in a marina with mains power, some appliances that are power hungry can not be used. This includes the washing machine, dishwasher, microwave, freezer and coffee machine. We do have full cooking facilities, running hot and cold water and a fridge as well as tvs and other entertainment though. During colder months, the engine will need to be run up to 2 hours a day to recharge the batteries.

We purchased this boat with a view to sharing it with guests. Initially we were worried that people wouldn't accept the compromises boat living imposes (power limitations, strange noises, unusual macerator toilet, water rationing), but we soon realised that people wanted somewhere quirky to stay. So after 4 months working on it to get it up to scratch and ready to share, we listed it on here.

There are many walks in the area where you will find a canal lock, a lovely pub that serves delicious food and a park with a kids playground. Windsor Castle is only 20 minutes away by car and Kew Gardens around half an hour away. Runnymede on Thames is only 15 minutes away, and it's less than an hour to London. The best place to park is in the Malt and Shovel pub which is a few minutes walk from the boat. We have made arrangements with the pub for you to park there for free. When you arrive at the pub it is important that you go in the pub and register your vehicle on every day of your stay to avoid a parking fine. Please note that the pub only opens from 12:00. If you arrive before that time then you may wish to find a parking space elsewhere. When you come out of the pub, cross over the canal bridge and turn right to walk along the tow path. Carry on until you see a boat which is burgundy and pale blue with the name "Thistle Dream".
