Wonderful location and property. Only sad we could not stay longer as had an early flight from Bristol Airport. Rachel the host was brilliant with simple touches like cold milk in the fridge and helping us book a table at the local pub.

Hi, there are actually two wingback chairs. That's a good point, I need to ensure that the pictures reflect this, so your question is really helpful!

  • Hi Rachel. Could you please let me know what the charge would be for 2 x small (terrier & cavapoo) non-shedding very well behaved dogs? Thank you :)

  • Hi is there an enclosed garden? Thankyou

The garden is quite large, and not escape-proof, so it depends on how good your dog is on recall. There are lots of lovely walks on your doorstep as well.

Charming well-appointed one bed self-contained accommodation in a restored 1840s cottage. Situated in an elevated position in the pretty Somerset village of Compton Martin near Wells, nestling in the beautiful Mendip countryside and Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, it is just 15 minute drive from Bristol Airport. With far reaching views of Chew Valley and Blagdon lakes, you're also close to Wells, Bath, Bristol and Weston-super-Mare. This delightful accommodation is just a stone's throw from the extremely popular village pub. We're located just off the A368 Bath to Weston-super-Mare, which makes Compton Martin a great location for exploring further afield to places such as Glastonbury, Street, Taunton, Cheltenham, Cirencester and the Cotswolds. Lyme Regis, which is the closest town on the south coast is about 90 minutes drive. And you can also reach South Wales (Cardiff) in a similar amount of time. Guests are advised to note that the spiral staircase is not suitable for everyone. Please be sure that you're comfortable with this before you book.
We live on site, so you may encounter any one of us during your stay. Roo can often be found tinkering in his Man Cave (the shed) on your way to the garden. Rachel has a part time job working in the village pub, so even if you don't encounter at home, you may well meet her there! Treacle loves sniffing the hedges and saying "hello" to anyone who happens to be passing. She's great with other dogs, and likes little people.
Once two separate dwellings, Woodview is nestled into the slopes of the Mendip Hills in the historic village of Compton Martin. Quintessentially 'Somerset', the village has its own pond, church, busy pub, Post office and village hall. Some suggest that the village could date back to Roman times, due to its proximity to Bath. We do know that the village appears on a Tudor Map of the area which may have been commissioned in order to settle a court dispute in London regarding grazing rights between Compton Martin and West Harptree. There's an ocre mine in the hillside just up from the cottage, which it is rumoured would have been used in the paints used by the chronicler who created the Tudor map. We are within the Mendip Hills AONB with its rich and varied landscapes - from moorland to steep gorges and rich valleys, there's no wonder it's popular with those who love the outdoors. This part of the West Country is extremely attractive for recreation, with plentiful walking, fishing, sailing, cycling, eating out and city tours to make the most of your visit. There are local stores where you can obtain essentials with a selection of shops and eateries in nearby Chew Magna, about four miles away and The Pig near Bath within easy striking distance by taxi. Being in the countryside means that we are not serviced well by public transport. Guests usually come by car or motorbike, which they use as their means of getting around, although we have previously welcomed walkers and cyclists in need of somewhere to spread out and sleep en-route to other places. If you are visiting the area for a special occasion and need the services of a taxi, you will need to make sure that this is arranged prior to your event. We can help with names of local taxi drivers. We also offer secure parking for motorbikes and bikers are welcome. In short, you'll need a motor or some other means of self-propulsion to go anywhere beyond the confines of the village.
