Very short distance from the centre and the lady at the reception was super helpful. The bathroom was huge and the room was mostly comfortable, though the bed was a bit squidgy in the middle!

The location is so convenient for the older charming streets and houses. There are lovely cafes and restaurants close by and is an easy walk into the cathedral area in the center of the city. The room looking out on to the canal was magical, with wooden beamed ceiling.
The breakfast was a delight. The room is on the top floor and has light coming in on 3 sides. Its large and so doesn't feel crowded no matter how many are there. There was a large area of breakfast items to choose from, breads, cheeses, cooked eggs, bacon, sausage, cold meats, fruit, juices and coffee. Lovely quality too, very tasty. For every member of the family there will be lots of choose from.

Located in the Flemish region of Belgium, the beautiful medieval city of Ghent is a city of history and romance. It's full of hidden historical, cultural and culinary gems that you can easily discover.
The Gravensteen or "Castle of the Count" is a deceptively enchanting sight dating back to the Middle Ages. Constructed by Philip of Alsace, the count of Flanders, it's partially surrounded by a moat and beautifully restored, and hosts an interesting museum about the history of prison life.
Part of the UNESCO World Heritage list, the Belfry of Ghent is a medieval tower overlooking the Old Town centre. Saint Bavo Cathedral and Saint Nicholas' Church are the city's other two towers, with St. Nicholas' Church being one of the oldest landmarks in Ghent.
Enjoy a relaxing walk in the picturesque medieval streets and stop at one of the charming traditional restaurants for Belgium beer and a classic Flemish meat stew with French fries. Local delicacies include the popular Belgium chocolate and the purple jelly-filled candies called the "noses".
Antwerp International Airport is 32 miles away, while Brussels Airport is 34 miles. Just book your hotel, guest house, apartment, or B&B through Booking.com and discover everything this stunning city has to offer.

Really enjoyed exploring beautiful Ghent, despite the public holiday limiting access to museums etc. It was a great base, with easy train connections to reach Bruges and Brussels too. Recommend the map with 4 Ghent sightseeing walks (free) and the associated publication for a few Euros, describing the sites in detail (from the main Tourist Info or the Tourist info point at the station).

Ghent is a beautiful medieval city.
Ghent is a beautiful medieval city. I recommend it to everyone who likes having a good time in historical places. If you like visiting museums, there are lots of alternatives in Ghent, and you should definitely buy a Ghent card to enter almost all museums for free. Booking for some of the museums is not even required if you are a Ghent card holder. Plus, all public transportation is free, and you should definitely take a free boat tour with your Ghent card.

The people is very kind and you can enjoy for a good beer on a terrace by the canal. It is idyllic. The water in the restaurants is expensive, it is better to order a beer.
The chocolate is fantastic there and you have to eat a waffle.

What a fantastic places with so much character. The Friday we were there we did not feel overwhelmed by the crowds, Saturday was different with many locals taking advantage to visit. There is a lot to see and I would recommend booking various tours in advance so as not to miss out.

I was expecting a smaller city with historic features, which it does have, but the reality is, this is as busy as Amsterdam or Brussels. The city was quite dirty when I was there, lots of trash on the streets and dumped in front of the buildings, waiting for pickup, hopefully. But to me, the total letdown was the historic City Center. Yes, definitely historic, but so busy and dirty, with McDonalds and Burger King slapping you right in the face. It's as if they decided to "modernize" the historic area without giving any thought to how it would affect the view of the historic buildings, which are beautiful if you can see past the modern junk. I will not go back.

This is a really well located hotel close to Gravensteen. It’s quiet, very clean, lovely reception and a welcoming and warm atmosphere from the staff. They helped with all questions of where to eat/what to do. Would definitely recommend and come back if we return to Ghent. Cannot forget to mention the comic artwork in room, who knows what you will have in yours ?
My room was more like an apartment than a hotel room with 2 armchairs, a tv and en suite shower. Renee spoke good English and was really helpful. She messaged me a few days in advance to warn me about the Ghent LEZ charge. I could park my motorcycle directly on the pavement outside the front door. A pleasant 15 minute walk to the city centre.
The host was very friendly, efficient and accommodating and so was the lady that received us. The place was well equipped, comfortable and super clean. Security was good. We will most definitely recommend to others and also stay there again if we go to Belgium again. Thank you for allowing us to use your lovely accommodation.
I enjoyed staying in this hotel. Room large enough, it was a very clean room. Tea pot and coffee were in the room, and scooters were available from the reception, so I took one for a two hours morning ride.
Definitely going to visit Belgium/Gent in 2021 and will stay in Astoria, if will be possible.
We were very pleased with the location. The apartment was very well presented and had everything we needed for our stay. The host had left 3 bottles of Belgium beer and enough tea and coffee to get us over the first day.
