Sarajevo could be described as a captivating oasis of European cities, where East meets West in an integration of diverse cultures and a fascinating history mixed with a fresh cosmopolitan and charismatic vibe.
A museum in itself, Sarajevo is a sightseeing and history lover’s haven from the numerous mosques, churches and synagogues, to historic landmarks such as Sarajevo War Tunnel and Latin Bridge. Afterwrads, you could wander through the Old Town, which is a world on its own.
Sarajevo’s cultural diversity means a large selection of local delicacies. Be sure to visit Sarajevo’s historic and cultural hub Baščaršija bazaar, an ancient trading place with cafés, restaurants, cosy bars, art, and loads of accommodation options.
Booking.com has a great range of apartments, hotels and hostels located in the heart of the city and near Sarajevo International Airport.

This was the first European trip outside the EU for us for a number of years. The currency change (KM), fact they don't widely use card payment and roaming tariff charges did come as a bit of a shock, and I did feel like a proper traveller for the first day. The city has lots to offer - so much interesting history (we did a walking tour day 2 which really set the scene), the old town comes alive in the evening, food is excellent and good value for money. We hired a car and went to Mostar for the day - this was another lovely city and the trip made us want to do more travel in the region as the countryside is so beautiful.

Fantastic city, full of history and culture with direct flights from Stansted. The Old Town has got a great vibe and beautiful mosques dating back 500 years.
A mini Istanbul! Borek and the kebabs must be tried.
Take a walking tour of the city. It’s worth learning about the history of the city from Ottoman times to the genocide in the 90s. The Tunnel of Hope and the Genocide museum are good places to start.
The scenery is beautiful if you drive out towards Mostar with stunning mountains and blue lakes. Highly recommended.

In my opinion this is a two days at the most, worth of visit city. The main attractions are in the old city area and you can walk it through in two hours. Of course you can always elaborate if you are interested in something patricularly.
The food is quite good and in affordable prices, coffee also. Most of the restaurant - coffee shop staff are polite and helpfull, but the grumpy "reminder of another era" face is there! Best reastaurant i tried was KLOPA.
They don't accept euros widely as mentioned elsewhere but there are many exchange offices in the area.
Sarajevo is very safe for tourists, didn't feel any threat at anytime. You can take tram No 3, buy a ticket from the driver for 1.80 mark and see the city along the way and back.

You can see Sarajevo in 2 days, stay in the old town for easy tourism.
I stayed for 4 days this time and went on more hikes up the mountains walking distance from the old town
If the weather was cooler I would have travelled to Mostar for 1 day but it was too hot for that this time.
I have been to Sarajevo twice now and loved it both times.
Lots of halal food and options available
Lots of areas to hike in the mountains or go for picnics
Cables cars is a must - I went up the cars after 4pm so there was no queue which was great. In the past I had been to the cable cars in the morning/day and it was a huge queue with a long wait.
You can go climbing in the mountains
The food is nice in Sarajevo
Good option for a cheap holiday - you can’t over spend as there is not much to buy which is excellent, culture is great.
Only a few trains, 2 trams and a few buses means you need to stay in the old town and walk everywhere or hire a car. Taxis are not all metered - I think the taxi driver from the old town to the airport used an app to hike up the prices. The price should be 25 Bosnian marks from the airport to the old town but they charge 25-50 Euros - negotiate prices before getting into the cab.
Considering that we were one of the cheated guests in Sarajevo this year (the first accommodation we booked didn't exist), We were happy that we got a hotel in the center that was available.
The hotel itself in the heart of the city. The immediate vicinity of "Baščaršija" where everything happens. The receptionists are very friendly. The cleaners are nice. They cleaned our room every day. Upon arrival, we received a bag of coffee and a magnet of the city of Sarajevo. Very nice of them :)
My room was basic and clean. Also the bathroom is too. That is the what I asked for this short trip. If you won’t planning to spend too much time in the room, This hotel is perfect. Damir is also very caring and interested. Location is very central in old city and you can go anywhere touristic on foot. My window directly sees Sebil. If I go back to Sarajevo again I will definitely book here again.
Friendly and helpful staff! Breakfast is like it is in small hotels, but definitely nothing to complain about, everything was delicious. Own garage is absolutely a big plus. The room was clean and nice, air-conditioning worked well. I loved the book decorations all over in the hotel. The location is wonderful.
It's impossible to say that we liked anything given that the hygienic and sanitary conditions of the structure were so bad that we had to escape as soon as we arrived at the hotel. We can only save the Bosnian boy who was at the receptionist who tried to help us as much as he could.
