Al mattino vi attende una colazione asiatica.... Well worth the effort to travel to experience a lovely ryokan, it's host and the town. I paid for dinner and I'm SO glad I did. It was a highlight of my stay and in deed a highlight of my 5 week trip in Japan. You sit in a sunken seating area and watch the ryokan owner/cook prepare what felt like a large number of individual dishes. The food was absolutely delicious. I was concerned about hearing other guests because, being an older house, the walls are thin - but the night I was there all the guests were respectfully quiet. I had a view over the "river" which may be a mis-nomer - but it is a peaceful stream running through the pretty street. I highly recommend a visit.

Boasting a terrace and a bar, 片原楽家 旅人の長浜町家ドミトリー is set in Nagahama, 14 km from Hikone Castle and 8.9 km from Maibara Station. The place is just beautiful and it was one of my best stays during my trip so far. The host is very friendly, caring and hospitable. I felt very comfortable and at home from the very beginning. In the evenings, when it happens, we enjoyed a little get together with the other guests. The rooms are well organized, spacious and the beds are very comfortable. Each bed has a sliding element that can be locked. The showers and sanitary facilities are also very well maintained and there you find everything you need. The accommodation is in a super location, close to the train station, to the beautiful alleys of Nagahama, restaurants, bars, supermarket and also to the castle. Nagahama in general is a hidden gem. I highly recommend to leave Kyoto or other places to come here for a trip. You definitely won't regret it. Furthermore you can go by train for a day trip to Shizugatake which has very nice view over two lakes. Or rent a bike to ride or just walk along the biwa lake. There are many things to do. I stayed here for 3 nights and it was perfect. I will definitely come back. (: Thank you for making it so special.
