Budget travellers know that there is no better way to make the most of their trip than by staying at a hostel: save money for exploring during the day, and swap stories with fellow backpackers in the shared kitchen or bar in the evening. Dorm-style bedrooms with shared bathrooms are standard hostel fare, but private rooms are also available for those willing to pay a bit more.
If you want budget stay near Shirakawa-go there are only a handful of options. This hostel was a 1/2 mile walk from Shirakawa-go and was a great value for us. We had two private rooms on the 2nd floor with a shared bathroom. There were no issues using the shared bathroom and the bathroom and shower were clean and easy to use. There is shared bunk beds on the ground floor and the private room on the 2nd floor has stairs that may be tricky if you have mobility issues or elderly. I had a great time here.
Self check-in, so we did not meet the host, but albums found in the apartment were very helpful. Great location in Shirakawa-go (close to the city itself, as well as the viewpoint), close to the only market in the city.
Clean.
Well-maintained.
Friendly and helpful staff with access to a free shuttle bus down to the bus station.
Great location! The view from the kitchen over the surrounding mountains was amazing! An absolute delight having breakfast.
Great location! Flexible check-in and possibility to leave there luggage longer. Available snacks for breakfast were quite a nice surprise. Overall nice place.
Compared to other places in this village, it was a cheap stay. I liked the common area and kitchenette with free coffee etc. 20 minute walk to the attractions. The free shuttle was handy. Decent location. Not much within a 5 minute walk though. Good for a one night stay.
Small clean and minimalist.
Nice hotel staff.
So few accommodations in the area as majority are hostels and bunk beds that make this hotel look very luxurious.
It is a guesthouse that is closer to an original youth hostel: two bedrooms in dormitory style, where the common area is more comfortable than the bedrooms!
The owner is quite sympathetic.
Good wifi connection.
