The staff: some of nicest interactions we have had since being away (for a very long time). Thank you ever for being so lovely.
The offerings: we did a little yoga class in the morning and had an ice bath. Both cost extra but a great touch.
The cleanliness: although not spotless the cleaner is around and regularly keeping things in order.
The coffee: very nice and a complimentary cup in the morning.

Appreciate the effort of the management , but not enough.
Budget travellers know that there is no better way to make the most of their trip than by staying at a hostel: save money for exploring during the day, and swap stories with fellow backpackers in the shared kitchen or bar in the evening. Dorm-style bedrooms with shared bathrooms are standard hostel fare, but private rooms are also available for those willing to pay a bit more.

Schöne Lage im Dschungel, sehr freundliches Personal
One of the cheapest places we could find in Puerto Viejo for a private room. Lovely atmosphere at the hostel. Walking distance to the Main Street. Staff are really helpful and friendly.
Kalunai Hostel has a great location within Puerto Viejo and a big common area/ kitchen for people to gather. The staff is really friendly and helpful. A traditional Costa Rican breakfast is served each morning.
Best hostel in Puerto Viejo! Had an amazing stay once again. I keep coming back here. The staff is amazing, always willing to help or just chat with you. It has everything you need and is located in between town and cocles beach. Both are walking distance which is really nice. Recommend anyone to stay here!
I really really liked this hostel, everything was perfect with the exception of the heat in the dormitory room. The common areas are great, theres a pool table, smoking area, lots of places to relax, well equipped kitchen. The staff were nice and the location ideallic, although a short walk into town
Great location close to the centre of town, reliable wifi, personal bed fans to help with the. heat, clean bedding daily and towels on request. Well equipped kitchen. Large communal area with plenty of hammocks. What really makes this place special are the staff, they are super helpful and create an effortlessly social atmosphere. By far the best hostel I’ve stayed in during my time in Costa Rica
Everything in the hostel was perfect, the location is very good and safe, close to bars and restaurants and the staff Gonzalo and Sylvia are very friendly and attentive. Giannis the owner is a very kind and helpful man he helped me
with my trip and everything i needed. Some nights they do family dinner and the food is delicious and cheap. I recommend this hostel to everyone coming to puerto viejo. Thank you guys for making my trip so memorable
This is by far the best hostel in Puerto Viejo!! It's close to the center but far enough to hear the birds singing all day. The open comunal area is a blas and makes it really easy to talk to other backpackers. But the best ofall is the owner's vibe! He takes care of you and your trip, and makes you feel at home. You won't feel like leaving the hostel ☺️
