It was one of the most enjoyable, authentic stays we have had! Our hosts were very kind and helpful. They took great care of us from the meals they served, to the facilities they tended, and the hot water bottles they provided each night to ensure our futons were cozy warm on very cold nights. The meals were excellent - healthy, delicious, and abundant. We would love to return!

Satoe-san was very warm and welcoming. She made us breakfast upon request (need to order 3 days before the stay). Food is delicious, especially the firm Gokayama tofu and original dip she made! The location is perfect if you are coming from Shirakawago like us. It is in Gokayama which is also a heritage site. They have gassho houses that are equally beautiful and not as crowded as Shirakawago. We felt at home at Guest House Yamashita-ya. Hope we get a chance to stay again!

Everything! If only I can rate it more than 5 star I will. The kind and warm welcome of the family host, comfortable bed, clean, cozy and homey stay & the food prepared was delicious and healthy (vegetables were organically grown by the owners from their garden). The area is surrounded with natural landscape too from rivers to mountains and it’s even more beautiful during the winter to walk around and enjoy the view.

Guest house Pongyi is exceptionally clean and organized. Nina san and Masaki san are welcoming and incredibly informative. I had everything I needed during my stay. Nights at 8 PM they had all the guests in amusing events like making origami or cooking Japanese snacks. I had the chance to socialize and learn about Japanese culture during the events. I highly recommend Pongyi house to anyone considering staying in Kanazawa!

Excellent, clean, and comfortable facilities with everything you need. Laundry is easy to access as well. Shuji san is very welcoming and helpful and went out of his way to help book a bus day trip and restaurants. Also located very well in close proximity to the Higashi Chaya district and easy access to the major attractions in Kanazawa. Beyond great value for the price. Absolutely recommend to any travellers.

It’s a beautiful old house with lots of vintage furnitures. It exudes a sense of time traveling back to 20-30 years ago. We booked for a big room, with window looking out to the street. The size of the room was decent. And beautifully decorated.

The wonderful host family shared with us aspects of their unique culture. The bedding was also comfortable and snug, and the food was simple and tasty. One of the best minshuku experiences in Japan.
This is a special experience. You get to experience the hospitality of a home stay in a 200 year old thatched roof house. The dinner and breakfast were perfect and our host was congenial and shared his musical instruments with us. The town is lovely....small enough for a one night stay.
