The hosts were very welcoming and cooked amazing Japanese food for dinner and breakfast. The guest house was very clean and tidy and we had all the necessary amenities. It was very nice to learn about where we were staying as the hosts talked to us about the Gassho houses and culture in the village. Definitely a highlight of the trip!!

Wow what an amazing place! Guest House Pongyi was the best place we stayed in Japan. My partner and I wanted to try out a variety of different types of accommodations on our trip, from luxury hotels to hostels, but Pongyi was by far the best.
We stayed for two nights and while we were there it really felt like a family. Each night there was a small event (origami the first night and making takoyaki on the second night) where most of the guest would get together and chat while the two wonderful owners (Nina and Masaki) would share insights into Japanese culture and Kanazawa.
The whole house is very clean and the shared accommodation is comfortable and well organized. Breakfast is also great and reasonably priced (Nina makes a great breakfast sandwich!). We both felt a little sad when we had to leave, but we hope we can come back and stay here again someday soon!!

This stay was one of our highlights of our first Japan trip, even though we only stayed for one night. We felt very welcomed and the owners are so kind and sweet - you could really tell how much effort they put in to make this stay as pleasant as possible (and Gao is so cute!). We had big and heavy suitcases, but Soku even helped us carrying them to the room upstairs. Sleeping on the futon was comfy and we had everything we needed. It was a nice break from the busy big city. It's a pity that we only stayed there one night. We will definitely come back and stay for longer next time!

Hidden gem in Kanazawa ! The Machiya is fantastic and with a very warm welcome . We felt like at home and very peaceful . Nice cafe around for the breakfast .
Travellers on a budget looking to experience a place like a local will enjoy homestays. This simple accommodation is in a private home, where the host also lives. All facilities are shared and in most cases breakfast is included.
The wonderful host family shared with us aspects of their unique culture. The bedding was also comfortable and snug, and the food was simple and tasty. One of the best minshuku experiences in Japan.
This is a special experience. You get to experience the hospitality of a home stay in a 200 year old thatched roof house. The dinner and breakfast were perfect and our host was congenial and shared his musical instruments with us. The town is lovely....small enough for a one night stay.
