Fantastic welcoming by the host, we opted for the BBQ option and went grocery shopping using the bikes of the hotel - all of it was great fun! The bed was also very comfortable.

It is a very pretty mansion close to the mount Aso. The view is amazing and the interior is cute and beautiful. I especially appreciate the fireplace, it made the whole house very warm and cozy. The warmness is especially important in houses in Japan - in almost half of my stats during the trip it was freezing cold with AC being of little help.
The owner was very friendly and helpful. He helped us to get the luggage up the stairs, gave nice travel advice, it was really fun to talk to him. In the morning he helped us with the coffee machine and with the tea for my mother, I was really greatful.
And of course the dog! The owner's dog Leo - fluffiest and cutest golden retriever also lives in his own room in the house. The owner took it out to interact with guests upon their request and Leo was such a good boy! Very calm and well-trained, I fully converted to a dog person now.

I liked how warm the guest room was. The heater was running for most of the evening, which meant that despite the cool temperatures in the morning, where we slept was comfortable and warm. I also liked waking up to the sound of birdsong. It was truly a beautiful place all things considered. Also, the host was very kind: he sat down with us to explain the best hot springs, the best places to get dinner/breakfast, etc.

Super comfy beds and blankets, a heater in the room when it's very cold outside - we got really good sleep.
Travelers on a budget looking to experience a place like a local will enjoy homestays. These simple accommodations are in a private home, where the host also lives. All facilities are shared and in most cases breakfast is included.
The youth hostel is perfectly located near Aso JR station, the bus centre, a nice onsen, a lovely salon, and a restaurant which offers great food at a reasonable price. All of the facilities can be accessed within 3 minutes by walking. Cuddly Dominion where you can enjoy a helicopter ride is just 15 minutes walking distance from the hostel. I recommend this lovely hostel to everyone who wants to explore Aso and Kurosawa Onsens
