Located in Pointe-Noire, 2.4 km from Marigot Beach, Le Bougainvillier Blanc features accommodation with an outdoor swimming pool, free private parking, a garden and a tennis court. We spent a delightful 6 days at La Bougainvillier Blanc in late January. We have poor French-language skills but we managed quite well, aided by a translation app on our phone (you need lots of data - 50 MB). We deliberately didn’t rent a car - that worked because we like walking. If that’s not your preference, you’ll have an easier time with a rental. Our favourite places were the larger local beach, Plage Caraibe, (great snorkelling at the north end) which was about 5 km away, and the Chute de Acomet, a beautiful little waterfall with lots of little pools downstream, which was 7.5 km away. That made for some long walks with some significant hills. Fortunately, there is also a local transport system available which made it easy to get to the other nearby beach (Plage de Petite Anse). Hitch-hiking is considered normal. Good local maps are free at the tourist office. Our gracious host Lucien has a wonderful little swimming pool at the guesthouse, so an end-of-day swim was part of our routine. The trickiest part for us was dinner – we tried to get back to La Bougainvillier Blanc by sunset to avoid walking in the dark, but most restaurants only opened later. We worked around this by eating a large late lunch (good choices at the beaches), eating at the one restaurant that opened at 17:00 (An Ba Tol La), or else making our own dinner in our well-equipped kitchen. If you have a car, there are at least 3 good restaurants close by. Pointe-Noire is not a tourist town so most shops close in the afternoon. Some useful shops that are open most of the day are along the main road (N2) – there are two pharmacies in the centre of town, and a large grocery ((Carrefour Express) and a good bakery/coffee shop on the southern half of town. We weren’t looking for a lot of tourist activities – just a quiet, peaceful time with low-key, interesting things to do each day. La Bougainvillier Blanc and Pointe-Noire were perfect for that.

This resort is well appointed, comfortable, has a lovely pool and you can rent a car for a very reasonable price and no hassle. The hosts are nice and professional. At one point the freezer went on the fritz and within an hour it was replaced with a brand new one. Each unit has a private terrace, the bed was comfy and the water is hot. The kitchen has what you need to prepare meals, and there is a washer in the unit.

Free private parking is available on site. The host takes great pride in ensuring that his guests are comfortable and enjoy their stay. Definitely recommend this location.

Las Puertas del Paraíso is a property located only 7 minutes’ drive from Playa Río San Juan Beach. The property has free Wi-Fi throughout, an outdoor pool, breakfast buffet service plus an à-la-carte restaurant. The grounds are beautiful and peaceful, it was very relaxing. The hosts are very helpful and accommodating. We enjoyed conversing with them. The food was fresh and delicious including the dessert ;-)

Yepton Estate Cottages is set in extensive tropical gardens next to a salt lagoon bird sanctuary. It offers self-catering accommodation around an outdoor pool. There is free Wi-Fi and free parking.

Air-conditioned cottages offer a furnished terrace with barbecue facilities, some with a hammock. There is a living room with cable TV, an electronic safe and DVD player. The private bathroom comes with a hairdryer, and there is a well-equipped kitchenette includes a fridge, microwave and a blender. The owners were extremely hospitable, helped us with our luggage, transportation and dinner recommendations. We had a great time!

It was completely quiet and provided panoramic views over the ocean from the terrace. 2. The cottage was sensitively built -compact, but with all we needed. 3. The hostess and owner were friendly and very helpful -it was a pleasure to meet them both. 4. We were on a walking holiday and access to the southern half of the island was good from here. 5. It was extremely hot during our stay. The lovely swimming pool and terrace were much appreciated. 6. Exploring the plants and seeing the birds in the compact but varied garden was a pleasure. 7. This was our best accommodation during our 4 weeks on the island.
