Happy Monkeys

Puerto Jiménez

The holiday home includes 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom with an a bath or shower, a seating area, and a fully equipped kitchen with a fridge. Towels and bed linen are available in the holiday home. The property offers sea views. The location of this property near the center of Puerto Jiminez and on the ocean with a view of the sea and the boats was perfect. Coffee on the porch with the fresh air was so relaxing. Accommodations were comfortable and spotless, with everything we needed to enjoy our stay. We booked last minute but I would book again in a heartbeat. The owners were very nice and greeted us promptly upon our arrival to answer any questions and explain the layout. The property is adjacent to a business for kayak rentals, which we did not use this time but have in the past, and that would be very convenient for travelers visiting who also want a kayak adventure. We were a couple, but the accommodations would be sufficient for a small family or group.

La Amapola Lodge, Bungalow en Península de Osa.

Barrigones

The spacious holiday home has 2 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, bed linen, towels, a flat-screen TV with streaming services, a dining area, a fully equipped kitchen, and a terrace with mountain views. For added privacy, the accommodation features a private entrance. It’s got a great driveway, spacious house with two levels, great mosquito netting that goes around the bed, 3 bathrooms, lovely pets including a friendly parrot 🦜 and the outside patio is well kept and the pool stylish (and illuminated in the evenings!). We stayed for 6 nights with Geraldo and his family and they were very welcoming and even gave us fresh bananas and coconut waters daily. His wife did our washing and folded it really neatly. We were never bored as there is so much to do on the Osa Peninsula and we really missed the place and all the people and animals living there when we left. We saw squirrel monkeys from the balcony in the morning and saw macaws fly over the house regularly.

Casa Bolita

Dos Brazos

The holiday home is equipped with 2 bedrooms, a living room, a fully equipped kitchen with a dining area, and 1 bathroom with a walk-in shower. Towels and bed linen are provided in the holiday home. The property has an outdoor dining area. We were concerned when we booked this as it is off grid, and we were unsure how we would cope staying there for 4 nights in the middle of nowhere. It was absolutely fine though and we would strongly recommend the place. When you arrive, you leave your car at the Rangers office and walk 10 mins to the accommodation. Val and Ron, who run the place, were so helpful with guiding us there and helping to carry bags. They were so friendly and interesting to talk to about their life there. The house is lovely, being very well equipped, clean, and comfortable. It is very private, not being overlooked and surrounded by a large garden. The place is off grid, but there is solar powered USB point for phones, and WiFi is accessible at the Rangers office. Ice was delivered every morning to use in the Pelican cooler, which worked so well to keep everything cool. You need to take all the food with you as there are no restaurants in the local area. The pool is big and lovely to cool down in. The wildlife is amazing, just be prepared to share the accommodation with some of it, there is a small colony of bats in one of the bedrooms, which are harmless and don't bother you and are fascinating to watch. The bird dawn chorus is one we will never forget, so many sounds, along with the magical fire flies at night. Can't list everything we saw, but highlights including the swallow tailed kites, white hawk following the squirrel monkeys along the river. We sat by the river for 3 hours early one morning and let the wildlife come to us. We saw so much! It is a wonderful place and an experience we will never forget and are so glad we did. If you like wildlife, this is the place for you.

CASA CONTIKI

Cabo Matapalo

The spacious holiday home features 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, bed linen, towels, a TV, a dining area, a fully equipped kitchenette, and a balcony with sea views. This holiday home also includes a patio that doubles up as an outdoor dining area. For added privacy, the accommodation features a private entrance. It is an incredible place! There are no windows so the breeze comes in and the temperature was perfectly comfortable. Creatures came in too in the night, as we’d forgotten to lock up the cupboards and refrigerator, and they left perfectly gutted plantain skins on the floor. They also took a bag of tortilla chips out of the cupboard. The sounds of the rainforest are constant- the cicadas, birds, the tremendous pounding of the ocean. It was excitingly eerie at first- the remoteness, the sounds, the lack of contact with the world, but as we relaxed into it, it was transformative. Bring lots of food as the two restaurants are a ways down the road. The road is extremely rutted in places so it takes at least 30 minutes to travel to the main road. There is no WiFi. We stayed six days and had amazing experiences like no other. Orlando was a perfect host- he arranged two amazing tours for us and even brought us some groceries we needed from the store. we were sad to leave. It’s a wild, wonderful experience on an incredible part of the world.
