Backwaters was a lovely spot on the doorstep to the western gate of Wilpattu. They organised a game drive for us (where we saw lots), a river trip and boat ride to our next destination. The rooms and grounds are full of nice, environmentally friendly touches, and the meals are great. Since the centre of the park is a little ways from this gate, a full day game drive turned out to be better than a half day - and allowed usto see lots of elephants at the end of the day.

Set just 38 km from Kumbichchan Kulama Tank, Wilpattu Mookalan Resort provides accommodation in Habawewa with access to free bikes, a garden, as well as room service. Can't beat the location. Right next to the park entrance which is key if you want to be one of the first vehicles in. Owner was extremely friendly, limited English but attentive and proud. Very rural/rustic setting, felt like I was miles from nowhere in a good way. Also, big heavy shower head with water pressure makes for a nice shower when you're covered in Wilpattu dust!

Really quiet and beautiful spot close to the national parks they do safaris and the food was delicious and cheap. The rooms are pretty big and comfortable! We highly recommend the place :)

I was doing an early morning safari at Wilpaththu the next day, and the resort made for a great stopover. My chalet was large, super clean, and they let me extend my check out time so I could have a shower after the safari. The packed breakfast was not gourmet food, but made for a welcome meal inside Sri Lanka's most beautiful game reserve.

Very friendly and helpful owner and staff who will try to help you in every way You can see so many birds and animals from the place itself You can do a local bird walk or a half or full day safari in Wilpattu National Park The dinner is home cooked Sri Lankan style, very fresh and tasty and plenty of it! Loved every minute of my stay
