My husband was recovering in Whangarei Hospital from major cancer surgery. I had booked a motel for 13 days to be close to him. On the 8th day of my stay, I was informed that I had been overbooked for that day. The owner's solution was to move me to another Motel for one night and I was to return the next day. I was not happy with this as the issue was not my problem and despite the owner agreeing with me, she was beyond reasoning with me. So I demanded a refund and left. This meant looking for another Motel for the night.
I found Hatea through Google, and what a great Motel it is. My room was beautiful, clean, spacious, and immaculate. The bed was divine, and even though I was exhausted, it was what I needed.
The owners were very welcoming, especially Karen. I felt a sense of warmth and aroha from her.
There is ample parking and it is close to amenities. I will stay again.

The location is a dream, and the view is even better in person! The cabin has everything you need for a comfortable stay, and the beach is literally steps away from the front door. It was exactly what we needed to rest and reset. Mike and Buddy were the perfect hosts! We would not hesitate to recommend this stay and look forward to coming back.

I loved everything about it, the morning view over the coast, the peace and quiet and the cat Smokey saying hello every day. I would highly recommend this place. Terrianne was a great host and had everything in place for me, loved it!
Very generous hosts with a well appointed home with Google Home, stereo, wifi, BBQ, aircon, great outdoor space, comfortable (although very firm master) beds, clean and spacious bathrooms, functional kitchen, good laundry facilities, and an arcade games machine with 300+ retro arcade games! Nice quiet street with very easy walk to the beach, cafe, dairy, and patrolled section of the beach. We were very sad to leave!
Last minute booking was able to check in straight away Host was very quick at responding. Attended a funeral close by. Loved that it was private, quiet and spacious. Very warm, beautiful shower, full kitchen, most comfortable blankets and bed. Would definitely stay here again in the future.

Booked the place thinking it was a motel initially. Surprised to see it was a house.
The apartment was WAY better than a motel, much more roomier and alot more comfortable. Was lovely and quiet and the homely feel of being in a house was fantastic.
