Our stay at Katsuemon Gosho was an absolute highlight of our trip to Japan. Everything about it was wonderful - the hosts and their gracious hospitality, the 200 year old traditional farmhouse, the stunning courtyard garden and the general rural neighbourhood. The hosts are proud of their home and we felt privileged to stay there. They only accept one lot of guests at a time which made our stay even more special. Translate apps allowed us to communicate very effectively.
We ordered a traditional Japanese dinner and breakfast the next morning and highly recommend that if you are staying that you do too. The home cooked food was outstanding and more like a feast than a dinner.
We would give this property more stars if we could.

Excellent location close to Nara Park and not too far from the Kintetsu station (JR station is also walkable if you don't have too much luggage but it is further). Good clean facilities, comfortable bed. Overall very good value for money.

The house was spotless, and very comfortable. It was located in a convenient place, very close to the station. All the beds were comfortable, and the facilities were great. The staff came to pick us up from the train station and drove us directly to the house. Such lovely people!

Lovely little Japanese traditional house with a small private garden. The bathroom was very comfortable, traditional Japanese bath space. Very comfortable futon beds.

Cultural preservation neighborhood. A lovely guesthouse. 2nd time, both times I stayed 3 nights. Run by a wonderful very experienced host. She connected me with many great cultural experiences including transportation details. I can't read Japanese so her translation to English smooths my travel in the area and beyond. And the futons are luxuriously thick. I sleep deeply there. I highly recommend.

This is an unmanned facility so don’t be put off by the staff score. Nara is easily walkable and this hotel being located so near the train station is a huge plus.
Warm and welcoming guest houses are ideal for travelers who prefer laid-back accommodations with a personal touch. Usually family run, these hosts will provide local recommendations and even optional meals. Guest houses sometimes feature a cozy living room or a garden – and are still cheaper than most regular hotels.
I spent one night in the dormitory as a solo traveller. Asato-san is really attentive and will have the best tips for your stay. The guesthouse is very clean with a very family athmosphere and some house rules to make sure the co-living works. The kitchen is well-equipped and you can rent bikes for YEN 500/day which I recommend to visit the area on a sunny day. I would definitely go back. Thank you!
Wonderful guesthouse with an incredibly kind owner. I stayed there for one night and was impressed how clean everything is. Will definitely stay here again!
The place is relatively cheap, there aren't many options at all in the area unfortunately. The owner was friendly, and there was only one couple staying there so it was quite private.
The 10th floor onsen. Normally the soaps are super cheap.but these ones had an amazing aroma.
Even the snack food at the hotel reception was pretty good. Better than the local convenience stores!
A nice house in a quiet residential area outside the centre. Attentive host.
Recommendation: be sure to have your dinner in the somewhat quirky restaurant nearby (ask the host). We were not disappointed.
The staff are very welcoming, and it was great to stay in a guesthouse where I was the only Western guest (at the time), which enabled me to have conversations with Japanese families.
The rooms and facilities were clean and comfortable.
It was a nice place to stay.
