Such a wholesome vibe, it felt like a 2nd family. Nina was great and ran some really informative and enjoyable activities at 8pm every night - we made traditional mochi and did origami another night. Really comfortable rooms.

Lovely guesthouse close to Higashi Chaya. It is run by an older couple who live on site and there are two or three guest rooms and an adorable Shiba Inu living in the house. I had the smallest room on the ground floor, which was incredibly cheap. Just a few tatami, a small table, a low chair, hooks for clothes. An aircon/heater that worked very well. Natural day light. For me, who goes out sightseeing, that was more than enough. There is also a large kitchen/ living room you are free to use, laundry facilities. All bathrooms are shared and are spick-and-span. The hosts are super friendly and speak English.
Buses for the sights are close by, one bus stop basically in front of the house, another 300m away. Also, there are two really great onsen. Yamato Onsen is maybe 200m away and has muddy brown lovely onsen water. Kuwana Yu is about 500m and has fewer onsen baths but a sauna. Both are vintage Showa era public baths, basic but super clean, bring your own towel.

The host was super welcoming and friendly, gave me recommendations and even lent me rainboots for a day to help me get through Kanazawa's wet streets. He also put me in a tatami room instead of the stockbed room I'd booked, since it was free during my stay. Room, kitchen, shared bathrooms - the guesthouse was perfectly clean and everything worked. The location was also convenient, you step out of the house and immediately are in one of the pretty areas.

The whole experience was wonderful. Staying in this old house was very special. It’s a very peaceful place, with a lovely view of the garden. The interior is spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated. Chiyo, our host, was very kind and welcoming.

It was a beautiful ryokan that has been nicely preserved. It was spacious and comfortable - we were just a couple but would still comfortably fit a family as well. The location was fantastic, right in the middle of the Higashi chaya district and not a long walk back to the train station and Kanazawa castle.

Good price for a spacious and well equipped house. The host met us at the house and showed us everything. We loved the little garden and especially seeing it after it snowed in the night. Really useful to have the washing machine.
Warm and welcoming guest houses are ideal for travellers who prefer unfussy accommodation with a personal touch. They are usually family-run, and your host will provide local recommendations and optional meals. Often cheaper than regular hotels, guest houses can also feature a cosy living room and a garden.
Very lovely guest house with a great host. Pleasant change to the usual choice of more or less soulless hotels if you want something more unique. I visited for a couple of days to see Kanazawa. Would definitely choose this accommodation again. Medium-duration walk to the city centre.
The guesthouse has been beautifully restored, maintaining the period features, but including all the modern comforts. Great location, lovely host, beautiful garden. We will return again.
Very quiet and intimate, traditional boutique stay. Wonderful and helpful host! Terrific local location. Washing machine in the room with an amazing drying room!
lovely place, the tatami was comfortable and the room very spacious (expecially for japanese standards). our hosts were very cute. great location if you want to immerge yourself in the old district of Kanazawa, but keep in mind that the town centre is 15 min away across the river. location is great thought, very beautiful and quiet
Beautiful and quaint traditional style guesthouse. come here for a proper traditional Japanese stay experience. The host was lovely and they have created a traditional feel with modern renovations and comforts like air conditioning and bathroom facilities. Out of the busier downtown area but walkable (20-30 mins) or by bus.
