The private Onsen are the absolute highlight of this guesthouse. Capsule/covens for sleeping in the shared bedroom seemed very spacious. I loved the Tatami in the traditional living room and the bedrooms. Breakfast is onsen-rice porridge, great local experience! (Not for everyone though) Location is brilliant for several hikes around Kumano Kodo (starting directly behind the guesthouse or taking the bus for other routes). I had a wonderful and very relaxing time.

Right next to the supermarket so we could get ingredients for dinner and breakfast. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook. Rooms have their own sinks which was a bonus.
The room stayed very warm for winter. Really nice views and close to other sightseeing places.

Simple and sufficient. Comfortable bed, sheets and bathroom clean, kitchen fully equipped. Though we checked in late in the evening, owner contacted and informed us of key access. When we came back fr a hike in a heavy downpour, the owner took out a shoe dryer! It was such a great help as it saved us from wearing soggy shoes the next day. Can't thank him enough.
Allowed us to leave luggage at common area for a few hours on checkout day. Rooms have a view of a river and hills. Supermarket a minute's walk away.

This was some of the best food that I got on the trip - the host made dinner right in front of us and was able to accommodate my vegetarianism, which was excellent. I would absolutely stay here again and will recommend to all my friends.

Nonagase Guesthouse is full of history, welcomingly told by the manager of the establishment. The rooms are inviting and elegantly furnished with pieces of family history displayed throughout the living spaces. The breakfast was balanced and provided a good foundation for a tough hiking day.

They are usually family-run, and your host will provide local recommendations and optional meals. Often cheaper than regular hotels, guest houses can also feature a cosy living room and a garden.
Great guesthouse. The host, Sanae was lovely and helped us check in early because of the bad weather. The guesthouse was lovely with excellent amenities.
Great hostel just meters off the Kumano Kodo trail. Dinner was a tasty and plentiful bento box. Free filter coffee and tea available and good sized sleeping capsules in the dorms. The onsen was also a great bonus!
The location was convenient and quiet, you could hear the stream of water.
It was vibrant and full of like-minded backpackers looking after themselves and facilities which stayed clean throughout the stay.
The outdoor onsen of the hostel was delightful.
Great hostel! Located right along the Kumano Kodo, with great access to hiking. Stayed in the mixed dorm and was very impressed with the size and comfort of the beds. Lots of privacy for a hostel. Everything was clean. Kitchen well equipped. Private onsen access was great as well. Loved our stay here!
Great hostel in the nature, far away from noise and crowds. Good kitchen, bento box option, laundry and the onsen. Everything you might need after a long day of hiking.
Our host Manabu is very hospitable, and ensures everything is going well for your visit. We enjoyed the location, 10 .minutes walk to fabulous onsen, quiet rural village. There is a small minimalist for groceries, Okagesan yakitoria run by Manabu san, and the cafe at the onsen for meals.
We had a very comfortable stay at this humble guesthouse. The host was very sweet. The common area is nice and cozy. The location was great, close to the public bath house.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. This traditional Japanese house is very well looked after and is in a great location, and within walking distance of two onsen. Manabu is a great host, even delivering handmade rice balls each morning. We also ate at his restaurant which was very good. Highly recommended.
We loved the house and all its features. It was like living in a real Japanese home.
Great location. Peaceful and quiet.
Fantastic and helpful host. We had a great meal at his yakitori restaurant.
And he even left some lovely rice balls for us to have for breakfast the following day even though meals were not included.
