Warm and welcoming guest houses are ideal for travelers who prefer laid-back accommodations with a personal touch. Usually family run, these hosts will provide local recommendations and even optional meals. Guest houses sometimes feature a cozy living room or a garden – and are still cheaper than most regular hotels.
Hospitality, kindness and willingness to help is second to none. The owners made my stay feel at home. Ibra is a fantastic host, he serves delicious breakfasts and the whole space is very homey and welcoming. And it is located in a beautiful quiet area very close to Torajan attractions. On top of that I was helped with my bus ticket back to Makassar. I am absolutely grateful for having stayed in such a wonderful place and if I am in Sulawesi again I will surely come back.
Simple and basic rooms, but very authentic experience. Clean. You feel like part of the family. Very good local and also western food. Meyske is a great host and also great tour guide for experiencing the Torajan culture.
A nice homestay in the main street of Rantempao.
Walking distance from the city center.
Big spaces, super super kind hosts, always with a smile and good mood.
Local food at good prices, different breakfast options and good portions.
Paulus and Ernie were absolutely great hosts, Paulus do guided tours or arrange guided tours for you, and Ernie cooks delicious breakfasts. The surroundings are beautiful and peaceful, the bedding was great as well
Very nice view to return home to after exploring Toraja. Very friendly and accommodating host made tasty pancakes for a price and was able to rent a scooter. Cheap local food options close by and 10min walk to city centre
Great location in walking distance to the centre of Rantepao, in the middle of rice fields (nice walks through the neighbourhood recommended). Spacious room and lovely hosts.
Very nice place, and Sarah was a really great host !
Also exceptionnal breakfast for Sulawesi with homemade breads, spreads and jams. And you can get up late and still have your breakfast 😊
Charming place with nice staff. Sometimes they gave us a free fresh fruits salad in the afternoon, such a delicate gesture! The room was spacious and comfortable. Many guides were waiting just in front of the guesthouse.
We had a great stay at Mama Tia! Yacob and his family are great hosts, they offered tour to help us discover the Toraja culture and it was super interesting. The guesthouse is located in rice fields, room is clean and well equipped, super wifi. Common bathroom clean. Nice terrace overlooking the fields. Breakfast good and tasty.
We even had dinner there (additional cost but as good as in any restaurant!)
100% would recommend.
