It’s in the middle of the jungle. The guest house collects you from the bus and then take you by motorbike to the guest house. 15 mins of dirt bike tracks so not for the faint hearted! The place is so peaceful and situated footsteps from the river - which you can swim in, which borders the jungle. Wildlife all around is amazing - macaques, Thomas leaf and silver leaf monkeys - garden is beautiful and bar/restaurant is such a great friendly space and the Jungle Band played for us 😄 Bayu, the king of the jungle, helped us with the trek and onward travel, the guides, Bagus, Ali, Wise, Donny and everyone who works at Batu Kapel are stars!

Very personal. Got to know all of the staff and they were so helpful with organising activities, food and cars for us. Had the greatest time at this accommodation. Rooms were comfortable and the fan was a great touch on the hot days. I also loved the dog and cat on property, they were adorable!!

I had a wonderful time at Charly and Jimmy's Homestay! They were incredibly kind and friendly, always making sure I had everything I needed. It felt like staying with family. They were available whenever I had questions or needed help.
The room was small but cozy, and the balcony was amazing. It had a hammock and offered a beautiful view of the river and the jungle. Jimmy was so helpful, showing me the best spots to swim and even lending me a tube to float down the river.
I highly recommend staying here if you want a relaxing and personal experience!

Nicely located in rice fields and with fish ponds. Bayu is an excellent host. He organized everything (airport transfer, overland tour to Lake Toba, jungle trekking) very well. We would like to emphasize the lovely, experienced and super-supportive jungle trek team with Jajang, Dony and Henry. While Janang is very knowledgeable and showed us 7 Orang Utans, some Thomas Leaf‘s Monkeys and Brown-handed Gibbons, Dony and Herny, did everything to take my almost blind wife by their hands and guided her 6 hours through the jungle. They paid as much attention, that she did not stumble and fall.
Bayu recommended to skip going south to Bukkitinggi and Padang in rainy saison and consider visiting Pulau Weh/Sabang. We followed his recommendation and it was an unique experience! Terima Kasih Bayu!

The main building was quite nice and the garden, too. After all the issues (see below), the staff completely understood we wanted to leave and allowed us a penalty-free cancellation. They also helped us get back to the village.

We loved our stay at Junia Guesthouse! We went on the 3 day jungle trek and got to see orangutans up close! We stayed one night at the guesthouse before and after our trek. The bungalow was nice, the food great and the staff very friendly. Furthermore Bukit Lawang is a beautiful town located just by the river.1

I had a wonderful week in Bukit Lawang, and a significant part of that was thanks to Thomas and his entire team at "Thomas Retreat."
The restaurant offers a wide variety of dishes. The more expensive rooms are particularly well-equipped and comfortable. The outdoor area and garden are well-maintained. And the prices are fair and reasonable.
Thomas is an experienced host and an expert on the national park. He takes care of his guests with warmth, hospitality, and a wealth of information. Whatever I needed or wanted, he organized it. For example, he arranged a night walk with a snake specialist! Naturally, he also assists with further travel planning and is a walking encyclopedia when it comes to bus schedules, routes, or local specialties.
The jungle trek is unforgettable, as is the multi-course meal prepared by the cook in the middle of the rainforest by a picturesque river. Thomas also gives his guests the opportunity to experience village life, whether it's a traditional wedding or the weekly market day.
I definitly hope to be back one day.

This is one of the first guesthouses around the river, which makes it a great spot after long travels because you don’t have to haul your luggage too far. Muhdi and his staff are very friendly, there is a great restaurant. You can book trekking through the guesthouse. The room was pretty big and my particular one was away from the street and therefor very quiet.
I liked the staff kindness and their willingness to help. Also, the trekking guide was exceptional: respectuous to nature and people and very knowledgeable.
All rooms have a great view on the river with a green jungle wall behind. The area is quiet and surrounded by nature and other small guesthouses. The room was perfectly clean and spacious.
Andri was the nicest host ever, he helps you a lot with everything you might need, and personalize also the plans you want to do. Me and my family can only recommend to stay at Sahnan guest house.
Great cabins to stay. These cabins and the whole property look great. Don’t expect a huge 5-star hotel, but a cozy lodge with 4 cabins.
Jay is a great host. He can also arrange transport from and to Medan (airport), and excursions to the jungle (e.g. 2 day jungle tour with sleeping in the jungle).

The hotel is 30 minutes walking into the jungle and in a nice quiet area. Al you can hear is the river flowing by, the animals and the rain on the roof

We had a great time at the guesthouse. Brian is a great host and is mindful of his community and the environment. He invests in those who have need of it. We arranged our jungletrek through Brian and had a great time spending two nights on the jungle with Brosit and the guys. We lacked nothing and learned a lot about the animals we saw. Great experience!
The bungalows are super cute! The hosts are lovely, speak excellent English, and organised a pick-up from the bus station. You can get some food and drinks at the guesthouse for cheap, and the walking street is not far. Room and bathroom are kept clean. Basic room, but comfortable. Only three bungalows, so it can be booked out very fast!
The guesthouse was at a great location and the host was very friendly and organized anything you needed. We did 2 day trek and everything was great. We saw many animals (including orangutans) and had plenty of food - the guide Tambrin and his assistant put lot of effort into making it the best time for you. Definitely recommend going on this trek with Tambrin!
Great location in Bukit Lawang, lovely grounds and outlook directly over the river. Beautiful teak rooms with outstanding bathroom facilities. Rooms and the whole guesthouse are spotlessly clean. Very comfortable beds and importantly, a quiet room upstairs . Indra and Nana, and all the staff are wonderful, and very friendly. The restaurant food is great - you wouldn't even need to go elsewhere to eat. Thankyou Indra and Nana.
