Newby Cross, hotel in Carlisle

Providing garden views, Newby Cross in Carlisle features accommodations, a garden, and a shared lounge.

The breakfast was "make your own", but had lots of choices for breads, cereals and jams (including blackcurrant jam). Nice big room with private (but not en suite) bath. Outside the city of Carlisle, in the middle of farmland, but with easy access to the center city and Carisle Castle, as well as Mike Barry's Scaleby Hill Motorcycle Museum.

Arkale Lodge, hotel in Carlisle

24 miles from Askham Hall in Carlisle, Arkale Lodge offers accommodations with access to a fitness room. This 3-star guest house offers water sports facilities, full-day security, and free Wifi.

Against all expectations considering the price, this is actually an absolutely great little hotel. The Nepalese staff is old school polite - exceeding even British standards. The breakfast was also very good. The parking is free, but it is off the premises. The adjacent parking does not belong to the hotel, but to the pub next door. However, by registering there and consuming something (great food, by the way), the car can stay there.

The location was nice near the city centre. Elaine, was a dream. She went out of her way to be sure her guests were satisfied. There is a sweetness to the place and my room was amply appointed with what I needed.

What a great find. A proper B&B in all the right ways. A large city centre town house sympathetically laid out whilst retaining great features. Plenty of permit parking nearby. A great hostess and a fabulous breakfast offering. Thoroughly recommended.
