Taxis and mikrolets stop right in front of the hotel. I plan on staying here on my next trip to Dili. Only other competing hotel is the Hilton when it opens, but that surrounding neighborhood is not wonderful and has few if any restaurants or shops.

Balibo Fort Hotel is a truly unique travel experience, the quality of stay was like nothing else we experienced in Timor Leste. The rooms themselves are modern, very clean and wonderfully decorated, whilst being surrounded by elements of the fort. The pool was an absolute highlight, with wonderful views of the local mountain ranges. The food was excellent, and there is a huge breakfast. The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, it was so lovely to see so many young people getting experience in hospitality. The hotel is in very close proximity to the Australian Flag House/Museum, and there is a wonderfully kept museum onsite at the entrance gateway, with a broader focus on Timor Leste's history.

All of the staff and the owner were so friendly and helpful and made me feel very welcome. The room was cleaned as often as I wanted and there was also a laundry service (which was included in the price) My room had a sizeable balcony with a view of the sea and a table and chairs. The room was also a good size and the bed very comfortable. There is a pool that is big enough to do short laps Although I didn't go scuba diving, this hotel is very much geared towards visitors who want to dive. Daily boat trips for diving with PADI trained instructors are available.
