When I last visited Dali, I stayed in the Old City itself, but staying outside the city across the street was so much better. It was nice to stay in a quiet neighborhood. The owner was also very helpful and went out of her way to help resolve questions or issues, including helping us coordinate a taxi pickup from the train station and walking to meet us with umbrellas on a rain day when we arrived! It really felt like staying over at a friends house rather than a hotel.
