I have been traveling around North Portugal for over two months, a week here and a week there, trying to settle in my head where to purchase a home. Exhausting and frustrating is a mild description of my physical and emotional state. Casa do Meio do Povo was so relaxing and gloriously situated that I did not want to do anything but read a book, lay in the shade, walk the grounds and take in the peace of my surroundings. There truly is a heaven on earth.

What an amazing place to stay! The 400 year old house has been lovingly restored and is full of quirky and characterful details. Luis gave us such a warm welcome, including some lovely wine. Breakfast was hearty and plentiful. We had the place mostly to ourselves and enjoyed relaxing in the living area by a cozy fire in the evening. We only regretted not having a chance to buy some wine or have dinner as our stay was quite short.
