Looking for a country house?
The top choice for people wanting to get away from noise and fast-paced city life. Country houses are private homes based in the peaceful countryside, with communal facilities and meals available. Activities to unwind can be included too, such as trekking, birdwatching and cycling.
It was a beautiful cottage in an ideal setting. Near the town but very quiet and peaceful. The cottage had everything we needed and was spotlessly clean . We were made very welcome even though we arrived with two large dogs
Lovely old style hotel in a scenic location.
Very quiet and peaceful.
Spacious room with comfy bed and lots of hot water.
Short but good menu - obviously chef prepared and cooked food. Really enjoyed my meals.
Dog friendly.
Friendly helpful reception staff.
I loved the location. It was quiet and peaceful. It had its own parking spot. A big deal in Scotland. Very spacious and clean. Wish we had been staying longer in the area!!
The staff at all times were helpful, friendly and did their best to sort out any problems as quickly as they could.
The room was spacious, comfortable and quiet.
Breakfast was good and the restaurant room a very nice place to be.
A very pleasant spot by the river in good countryside.
A beautiful property - traditional country house with stylish modern touches. Location is excellent - quiet and private but very close to amenities in Melrose. An excellent jumping off point for visiting the many houses/castles and gardens in the area. Breakfast was excellent with a range of options in a gorgeous dining room with lovely views across the garden. What makes Fauhope are the hosts - Ian and Sheila who could not have been more welcoming.
Friendly, approachable staff, attentive just enough without being overbearing. Loved the lounge with real fire. Beautiful breakfast room. Private lounge for residents. Great food. Lovely bedroom with lots of space. Great large sofas and chairs in the lounge. Great views of the river Tweed. Lovely quiet, peaceful location.
Dinner was first class both in quality and realistic quantities. We skipped breakfast as we had eaten so well the previous evening.
The bedroom was very well appointed and the bed most comfortable. We had a quiet peaceful night in perfect surroundings.
Gattonside is a quiet group of houses on the North bank of the River Tweed opposite Melrose. It was a lovely walk into the town with all its facilities. The countryside is lovely and from the kitchen there is a fine view of the Eilden Hills.
Melrose is an interesting little town set in the lovely countryside. Our room was spacious and well appointed. Although the room was located on the main street, it was very quiet at night time. The food in the restaurant was tasty and all the staff were friendly and helpful. A large car park was useful.
