Asian Tradition, French Flair and Growing Modernity
With delicious Vietnamese aromas, small silk shops and ancient pagodas, the streets of Ho Chi Minh City dazzle tourists with their vibrant atmosphere. Its rich culture includes beautiful French colonial palaces mixed with modern skyscrapers that show the power of Vietnam’s economic capital.
Whether you decide to visit the Notre-Dame Cathedral, the City Hall, or the Municipal Theater, you’ll see the care shown by Saigonese people in preserving their historic legacy. On the other hand, the Haussmann-style boulevards are typically packed with small motorcycles that make every street crossing a whole new experience.
Contemporary Saigon can be seen in places like the Bitexco Financial Tower, located directly at central Ham Nghi Blvd. Meanwhile, Saigon Center or Zen Plaza are some of its modern shopping malls.

Saigon, a city that pulsates with life day and night,...
Saigon, a city that pulsates with life day and night, captivated us from the moment we arrived. As the sun sets, the city transforms into a dazzling playground of lights and laughter, offering an unforgettable nightlife experience. From rooftop bars with panoramic views to lively street markets buzzing with energy, Saigon's nightlife is a vibrant tapestry of excitement and diversity.
One of the culinary highlights of our visit was indulging in Banh mi, a mouthwatering Vietnamese sandwich that perfectly blends French and local flavors. Whether enjoyed from a street vendor or a quaint café, each bite was a symphony of crispy baguette, flavorful meats, and fresh herbs—a true culinary delight.
Venturing beyond the city, a journey to the Mekong River unveiled a serene landscape where life unfolds along the water's edge. We cruised past verdant rice paddies and floating markets, immersing ourselves in the rhythm of daily life in the Mekong Delta—a testament to Vietnam's rich agricultural heritage and vibrant community spirit.
Back in Saigon, the food scene continued to impress with its diversity and authenticity. From steaming bowls of pho to delicate spring rolls bursting with local ingredients, every meal was a celebration of Vietnam's culinary prowess and cultural heritage.
In essence, Saigon captured our hearts with its dynamic nightlife, delectable cuisine, and the tranquil beauty of the Mekong River. This city is a tapestry of experiences waiting to be explored, offering a blend of tradition and modernity that leaves a lasting impression on all who visit.

Business city, all the sight seeing are in 2-3 hours of...
Business city, all the sight seeing are in 2-3 hours of driving distance. Inside the city there are good night life but not for family / purchase. Only wine and dine available in the night. That too for people like us who are looking for Non-Vietnamese food should wind up within 9 or max 10 PM. However, the city starts too early like 6 AM everyone is on their full business (road side vendors). Lot of roadside vendors, very good public transport. Crowded at places but no chaos. Lot of history behind the city and good to hear and understand.
There was a market called Ben Tanh Market that has a history of 180 years. They said it will be open until 10 PM and weekend 24 hours. However, it was closed by 9 on Sunday, when we reached there. We missed that because of mis communication.
There are two Tamil temples (Murugan Temple - named as SRI THENDAY YUTTHAPANI TEMPLE, and a Mariamman Temple). Both are maintained by local people without knowing much tradition or even language. Tamil people across the world are funding to maintain both these places. Nicely maintained and peaceful to pray. Other Indian communities also use that for Indian festivals (for e.g. Durga Pooja) etc.
I could manage Vietnamese food however, my family and elders cannot. So every day we went to one or other Indian restaurants and had good food. Bit expensive but unavoidable to survive in Vietnam. If you plan well to take some readymade packed food and manage you can save some money.

District 1 is fairly compact and easy to explore.
District 1 is fairly compact and easy to explore. However, some form of transportation is required (i preferred Grab, as a quick and cheap option).
I appreciated there's a lot of green areas and parks; traffic is not as bad as in other ASEAN cities.
A bit disappointed that Notre Dame cathedral is undergoing renovations, so there's not much to see from the Outside.
Unfortunately i did not have time for out of town excursions.

The museums and the central markets were worth visiting. I think for the most memorable experience was the War Remnants Museum. Beautifully presented and extremely informative. The people Pi encountered throughout my short stay were so friendly and willing to please. I would highly recommend Ho Chi Minh city to anyone.

Lots to see and do, Temples and museums, war sites to visit, natural areas such as Mekong Delta to visit.
Many hotels to choose from and at a fair price.
Many restaurants and eating places serving wonderful Vietnamese cuisine to choose from.
Our advice - Use suncreen and a hat. Drink bottled or boiled tap water. Wash your hands with soap or sanitiser frequently especially before eating. Be careful to eat in busy restaurants where the food doesn't sit long, be careful eating salad washed in tap water (dunk it in your boiling hot Pho! ).
Experience the long distance trains. The Lotus Express is such a wonderful journey, go for the soft berths, very comfortable.
The smaller places around central, coastal Vietnam are a breath of fresh air after the big cities of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh.

Really convenient location pretty near to the main city attractions like the market, war museum, etc. It also has de advantage of being in district 1 so there are infinite food options. The hotel is really confortable and staff is helpful.
It's a classic style hotel at a very central location in district 1. I got a spacious room at the city side. Not much of a view, but it was quiet and cost effective. Beds are comfortable and it's clean. Friendly reception, all good.
