FAQs about hotels in Washington, D.C.

A World Icon

Featuring tons of national treasures, Washington DC is the US capital and home to the world’s most iconic presidential building – The White House. Most visitors start at the National Mall, a huge park stretching from the Potomac River to the Capitol Building. It also encompasses the Washington Monument obelisk and the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, of particular significance in US civil rights, commemorated by the latest addition - the Martin Luther King Memorial.

Also here are 11 of the city’s 17 incredible Smithsonian museums, including the unmissable National Museum of American History.

If all this gets too much, wander around Georgetown’s Colonial buildings and take a break in one of the student cafés. Many world cuisines are represented in Washington DC and the city also has its fair share of live music venues, with a surprisingly good jazz scene. The National Symphony Orchestra is based here and the Kennedy Center hosts a range of productions.

DC’s planning policy means there are no skyscrapers, so if you fly into Washingon Dulles Airport over the city, you see its white buildings standing proud. The city is also served by Baltimore-Washington Thurgood Marshall Airport and Washington National Airport. All are quite a way out, so leave plenty of time to get there from your hotel, apartment or guesthouse booked through Booking.com.

Lovely city, felt very safe and mostly clean.

Lovely city, felt very safe and mostly clean. There was a strong smell of 'weed' in certain locations as this is legal in DC. The weather was great in October mid to high 20s. So much to see and most can be done on foot if you are up for a walk. The metro system is very good and quite cheap, also boat services along the Potomac to Alexandria and further are worth doing. Enjoyed some very nice meals, didnt need to book for most. Used the metro from the airport to the hotel in Georgetown ( foggy bottom ). Uber worth doing for bigger groups. Recommend you use the new MPC app to save you a lot of time at immigration, otherwise the queuing is horrendous.

Visited most of the iconic places, The Capitol, National American History Museum, Arlington National Cementery, Museum of National History, Air and Space Museum (Both, the one in National Park and the biggest one close to Dulles Airport), Washington Monument, Lincon Monument, Martin Luther King Jr Monument, Veterans... Korea War... all of them are good and I do recommend going there. I did not like the foodtrukcs so I turned to having lunch at Chick Fil A. Its easy to walk around all the monuments, no need to use a taxi in my opinion.

I've been using DC as a "hangout" every 2 or 3 months (for when I want to get out of my hometown of Philadelphia for a couple of days) for over 15 years now. DC has a very european mentality about it, to go along with the many different cultural, food and beverage experiences that it offers. From Hidden Speakeasies to Bottomless Brunch, from Bolivian bar/lounges to Embassy parties, DC offers so much that you don't have available in other "ports of call". I like it so much that I'm a season ticket holder with the DC Defenders Pro Football team....... One last thing, I'm always amazed by just how CLEAN it is for being such a large international city!

    Washington DC was awesome.

Washington DC was awesome. Do your research as some places/museum require you to reserve tickets weeks in advance. Bring sneakers as you will be doing a lot of walking as its the best way to see Washington DC and all the monuments/museums/historical sites. Do take a nighttime tour. The monuments light up and become almost magical/alive at night. A very different view/perspective from date time.

Wonderful size - looks just like a hotel but with addition of a kitchen so can self-cater. Staff on reception were so friendly and helpful. Loved that we could store luggage for free after check out until we needed to leave! Cheap laundry room available for use. Supermarket across the road and cafe next door. Bar downstairs. Close to all main sites. We walked everywhere. Also perfectly placed for Georgetown - fab for shopping. I would definitely stay again.

Such a comfortable place in a great location. My colleague and I stayed here for a conference in Walter E. Washington Center, and it was super convenient. There is a Giant grocery store less than 10 minute walk away, too. We've stayed at a different place before, but this one is much better and also cheaper! We will very gladly come back!
