Very clean, especially the bathroom. Two chairs and a little table made it comfortable. In the living area. Furniture is dated but in good shape. Although it is along the SR 20, it is very quiet, and there is no noise between rooms. I would stay again.

It's a business ran with so much passion and a thought about the clients.
Great care taken of everything: starting with the access to the little things that travelers very often forget in hurry, leaving their homes (like toothpaste, tooth brushes etc.), continuing with the readiness of the owners to help you with your requests, and finishing with am option to choose your time for breakfast, which is not only delicious but so finely served. Very much impressed!
We were together with my partner who used to travel for business a lot and stayed in all type of accommodations. I booked this place as a surprise. He said it felt like home staying there.
Less than 10 minutes’ drive from Fort Ebey State Park. Built in 1907, this non-smoking property features a library and bicycles for hire.

Enjoyed my stay at Captain Widbey. The rooms were very well kept and the shared bathrooms were clean.
We enjoyed also the dinner experience. Totally recommended.

The property was adorable and clean. It was comfortable to stay in. Bed was comfy and the kitchenette had enough to make dinner! Something not pictured is a little plug in stove top...so if you have food allergies and are someone who has to cook for yourself and are not really able to go out much...this kitchen has enough to be able to cook yourself a meal. YAY!
The host is very set on not having anyone else at the house, we asked to have our disabled friend be able to come pick us up so that we could ride all together to the 1st Annual Ren Faire together. We asked if our friend could park in the driveway, just long enough basically to come in and see the cottage herself (she was interested in possibly booking a stay there as well) and wanted to see what it was like inside as she is disabled and needed to know if there were necessary accommodations... and then we were going to all jump into her car and drive to the faire. (meaning we would still only leave our one registered car parked in the driveway and no one else would be staying the night at the property). This wouldn't have been breaking any pre mentioned property rules. The owner of the cottage wasn't accommodating with that. I understand if you let someone have accommodations it can cause issues. But I wasn't asking anything crazy or to break their preset rules. So just know if you stay here there are no exceptions AT ALL...very rigid with rules. So make sure you understand the property rules before hand and don't ask for anything beyond what is outlined.
Oak Harbor (Island County), in Washington State, was founded...
Oak Harbor (Island County), in Washington State, was founded as a Dutch community in the last half of the 19th century and incorporated in 1915. It has also been home to Naval Air Station Whidbey Island since the 1940s. Oak Harbor High School is the home of the Wildcats. A bit less than an hour away on ST HWY 20 E across Deception Pass to I-5, about an hour down ST HWY 20 W to the Clinton-Mukilteo Ferry Terminal, a half an hour to the San Juan Islands ferry terminal in Anacortes, and about 30 minutes to the Coupeville-Port Townsend Ferry Terminal, Oak Harbor is quite centrally located to visit the beautiful, breath-taking, scenery of the Pacific Northwest. There are also plenty of events that take place around the Oak Harbor area: Penn Cove Razor Clam Fest, Holland Happening, Penn Cove Water Fest, Old-Fashioned 4th of July, Hydros for Heroes, Oak Harbor Music Festival, and The Island County Fair all take place annually.

Oak Harbor was a good area to stop when traveling up Whidbey Island. But I didn't see the quaint waterfront that I was expecting. The main street looked a bit sketchy, especially having young children. And we were surprised that most restaurants were closed by 8:00 on a Saturday night.

Oak Harbour is an excellent base for exploring local parks...
Oak Harbour is an excellent base for exploring local parks such as Fort Eby and Deception Pass, to name two of the many spectacular places nearby. Also, the ferry to Port Townsend is a few miles away and one can take a day trip, leaving the car behind in Coupeville, and wander Port Townsend’s architecturally interesting downtown and waterfront without having to wait in line with a car. Foot passengers just walk on! No reservations required. This area is definitely worth a few days of exploring. The town itself has a wonderful park on the waterfront, and for those with small kiddos, the park sports a world class playground and sprinkler park. Because it’s the “big town” in the area, it has lots of amenities as well as the usual cutesy tourist places. There are choices of places to eat and just about any kind of service you need available.

There are no stunning mountains or grand canyons but Whidbey Island is a very nice and friendly place. I look forward to my visits and there are nice parks, beaches for every sun direction, impressive long views and the same bad food as every American town.

It’s changed since I lived there many years ago.
It’s changed since I lived there many years ago. It’s lost it’s small town appeal. Chain stores have run all the mom and pop businesses out. It’s just another plaza/mall town set in a used -to-be-nice location
We liked the location, in the historic area of town -- it felt like a sweet home rather than hotel-ish, very walkable. BUT the nicest bedroom is upstairs, which is fine, but there's no bathroom up there. (There's room to put one in, hint, hint.) For older people, that's not really workable. We were two friends, so we took the two downstairs bedrooms, with twin beds, and it was fine. It was an easy drive north to a gorgeous walk through the park and south to a lovely sea-view restaurant.
Excellent staff! This place reminds me of something from childhood road trips where we beg our dad to stay! Unfortunately charming inns such as this one are being replaced by metal box type hotel chains. This place had everything we needed. Highly recommend!
The hotel was just a short drive to downtown Oak Harbor and there was ample free parking on the property. There was lots of choice at the complimentary breakfast and staff were helpful. Beds were comfortable.
