Kailua-Kona is an attractive and historic town and shouldn't be missed despite it being rather touristy. Buying fresh fruit at the farmer's market in the middle of town is very convinient (apple bananas--yum!). There are many different activities available.

Really nice area. Close to lots of things.
Really nice area. Close to lots of things. My only issue was that the food was really expensive everywhere. Enjoyed Jackie Rey’s restaurant. Mantra ray experience was fantastic. Enjoyed Wasabi island tour. The people in the restaurants were all really nice. I would definitely go back.

Swimmers from the East Coast beware!
Swimmers from the East Coast beware! The beaches are dangerous with sharp rocks and sea urchins. I stepped on one the first day there, went to urgent care only to be told that there was nothing to do but wait - and apply vinegar compresses.
The island is lovely, but make sure you wear swim shoes!

I had been to Kailua-Kona before and really liked the feel of the downtown area. Unfortunately since I was last there they have introduced paid parking just about everywhere that makes it very expensive to go out anywhere when you add in a cost of $15 per hour to park. My advice would be to stay at one of the hotels within walking distance of the downtown area if you want to enjoy the restaurants there.

Kailua-Kona is a laid back, chill, serene, and beautiful place to visit. There are so many things to see and do (beaches, farms, parks, historical sites, shops, etc). So many restaurants to choose from with amazing food choices.

very conveniently located surrounded by many shops and restaurants. Also the hotel is one of the main pickup points for many tour organizers. quick access to the beach and about 15min ride to the Kona airport. Staff was nice and kind. The hotel has a beautiful hall showing various historical heritage.
Staff were very professional and friendly. Resort pools are great especially ocean pool. Locatiin was also excellent as it is not too close to hustle and bustle of downtown Kona. We had a hire car so it wasno problem. Our loft condo was spacious and well appointed and very clean. .
The view all around the resort is beautiful, you can see the Manta ray from the resort dock.
We didn't do this- but they offered to use water boards for free.
The pools were pretty nice.
