Sometimes, there are places that make you feel at home from the very first moment. They are rare, but in this case, everything was just right. We spent three weeks in Zanzibar, staying at various hotels of different – and even high-end – categories. One thing they all had in common was occasional issues, but here at Lala Land Lodge, everything was simply perfect.
From the warm welcome and help with our luggage to a wonderful accommodation where you can find peace, restful sleep, and spotless cleanliness – this place has it all. It’s the perfect spot to relax, where you don’t even feel the need to go on excursions because you immediately dive into full relaxation mode. We loved it so much that we even returned twice from other hotels, ultimately spending most of our vacation here.
What we particularly loved:
• High value for fair money
• Delicious food
• A fantastic team
• Friendly owners who discreetly manage everything in the background to ensure high standards
• A direct, unobstructed ocean view
• Exclusivity – with only four rooms, the experience is intimate and peaceful
• Reliable water and electricity supply – unlike many places on the island, Lala Land Lodge has a generator and dedicated staff who ensure uninterrupted services, even when other hotels struggle with this
• A beautiful pool
• Direct access to the ocean – perfect for swimming, with a staircase leading straight into the water. At low tide, you can take long walks along the beach.
• A breathtaking sunset – unlike most locations on the island, this place offers the perfect view of the sun setting over the ocean
• A comfortable and secure environment
Ultimately, we asked ourselves: what was it, beyond all these great features, that made us keep coming back? The answer was simple – we felt safe, at peace, and completely at home. This is a place where you pick up a book, unwind from the very first moment, and return from your vacation truly rejuvenated and deeply relaxed.

Very nice, relaxing hotel. I can’t complain about anything..everything was perfect regarding service, comfort, cleanliness etc. The hotel is a great place to stay for all of those who just want to relax and chill instead of partying. Great bathrooms with outside showers and toilets, amazing massages and a great view over the indian ocean. Breakfast and dinner were amazing and the service always super friendly and supporting.
I’ll definitely come back!

The restaurant offers a variety of delicious dishes. The mango avocado salad and the tuna tartar were my favorites. The hotel is located just a couple of minutes away from the sea and a semi private beach.
If you wish to organise day activities, the owner has the best contacts for you to enjoy that. These included sandbank tours with snorkeling and sea food lunch.

This is a real gem, a little piece of paradise .The gardens around the accommodation are beautiful with monkeys and the occasional bush baby in the trees. The property also has four friendly dogs of various ages who look related .They will take a walk on the beach with you ,which was a delight for us.
The on sight restaurant is good with local and international food that is prepared with care.
The room are spacious and cleaned every day. I enjoyed the very large bed with a firm mattress. The towels are changed daily and arranged imaginatively with a variety of fresh flowers.
The staff are very professional and very friendly, going out of their way to make your stay a memorable one.
Have no hesitation in recommending this property

A new and quite nice looking building with some sea view and definately good comfort. No AC, but as there was a good fan in the room, it was not needed. Personally I prefer not to have AC, I don't mind a bit of warm as long as there is a fan.
The staff was friendly and service-minded, I can NOT wish for better.

We spent 9 wonderful days in the Mandarin Resort. The staff was super friendly, the food delicious and the beach is a dream. Our children loved playing in the pool and during the low tide we could do beautiful walks in the sand. The water in the ocean is so nice to swim in, clean, warm and blue. We will always remember this perfect vacation and hope we can come back one day. Thank you to all the people working at the Mandarin Resort!

They serve best dinner and offer good performances. The water pressure was low on some days so it was difficult to shower. Our car was not allowed to enter the gate so we had to walk a long walk to the gate in the sun.

This place has an amazing ambient and a beautiful soul! It was like a hub for the coolest people from every country, looking for a peaceful, extremely relaxed vacation in a bit of wilderness, heartfelt conversations with alcohol next to the fire… it’s all in the package, and as a bonus you get one of the best teams - owners and staff members that are right there for you literally every minute.
Thank you all guys- Benjamin, Annick, Cliffton, Melania, Elisabeth and others whose names we did not get to know;) You were all so amazing that even after two weeks it was a pity to leave. We look forward to meeting you all again!
PS. A big thanks to Cliffton for recommending us Malaika, We enjoyed it to the fullest ;-)

It’s a very quiet and enjoyable place and you can book lots of activities from there but overall there is not much going outside the hotels. The public beach doesn’t have any good restaurants or shops so you’re pretty much tied to your resort.

The location is more quiet then other places, they do not have a beach like Kendwa but it you are just looking to relax a couple of days this does not matter. It is like on a little cliff, sooo nice!

Kizimkazi is a village, although in fact there are 2 distinct and separate areas, with 2 beaches. The rest of the area is comprised of large, private self-contained resorts with their own private stairways.
There is not much to explore, but boat owners offer big-game fishing and dolphin-watching.
There are only 2 restaurants, although some of the private resorts offer their restaurants to the public; but at a price.
Hardly any touting which is nice;
3 or 4 days is probably sufficient to see all there is to see.

The owner made here a little paradise. This is a small hide away with a lovely pool and garden. The staff is very friendly and caring, very professional. Excellent massage in front of the sea. It is nice to walk on unknown roads around (possible to explore up to the fruit&spice and down to the village of Kizimkazi). Everything is quite awesome. The food is the only thing that I wish to be improved (the location is remote and there are no other restaurants around and you dont have a better option). Good quality of shower water.
We had a lovely stay at Mama Root. The hotel has a great outside area with a beautiful view over the ocean and the beach is very quiet and relaxed. Very few vendors at the beach. We booked a snorkeling tour for 20$ per person at the hotel. A local fisherman took us to some reefs in the area which was great. Also we loved the food at Mama Root, every meal was different and very delicious. Owners and staff were very nice. Friendly drivers organized by the hotel drove us from and to the airport.
