We stayed in the suite upstairs. It was lovely. There was a pleasant view from the private balcony, a full size fridge and well equipped kitchen.

The hosts are super nice, you definitely feel at home.
Nice breakfast, house is clean, bug free, location is good, probably around 40min walk to the central area. It can be a bit noise at night time because of the road just in front of the house. Overall is a great place to stay.

Sky lodge is self catering, so there is no milk, tea or coffee etc. Stop at a shop before you sign in! The room is large and airy, the bed also large and comfy. The lovely man who manages your stay is very helpful and kind - he dropped us into to town to pick up supplies on our first day.
Nuku’ alofa isn’t set up for tourism. They don’t really understand what customer service means or they just don’t care. While the other islands are beautiful the mainland has very little to offer in terms of interesting experiences.

It was a real culture shock arriving on Tongatapu.
It was a real culture shock arriving on Tongatapu. None of the information on the internet is current or correct, and none of the tour operators respond to your requests so it's difficult to lock in activities. We found it easier booking things in person once we arrived. Cash is king. It is also difficult to get around without a car, so would recommend hiring one, but be aware that insurance can be an issue. That said, we had a great time once we worked out some of these quirks! Highly recommend getting off the mainland to a nearby island or for whale watching. The tsunami destroyed most of the resorts on the island so beware that it's not your standard tropical destination.

Beautiful friendly people, lovely location with interesting sites to see. Escape Cafe is great for eats. Plenty of sites to see...definitely go to Anahulu caves and the Blow Holes. Western tip of the island was not great, but there were some nice beaches on the way (southern coast).

It’s absolutely a developing city.
It’s absolutely a developing city. As the capital of the country, it lacks basic infrastructure. The local people does not have enough cultural life. Young people like to drive cars on the beach road with very loudly music, esp. in the evening to mid night.
General speaking, the local people is kind and polite.

I was given Room 101 on the ground floor which had a problem with the sliding door and lock. The staff were very friendly and courteous. Sumptuous breakfast provided on the balcony which overlooks the Pacific Ocean. The Billfish restaurant is a short walk from the hotel and serves a good dinner. Also the Friends Café in town serves good food.
The hotel is located within walking distance to Nuku’alofa city centre. Staff are always with a smile and helpful. I arrived at 00:25am but the hotel arranged airport pick-up which worked well. Travelled to the blowholes, tsunami rock and Haʻamonga stone arch. Had an enjoyable stay.
Wonderful hotel for a stay in Tonga. Clean, good comfort and AC. Good pricing. Very friendly staff and they also own a taxi and can give you an island tour.
