The place was fine but they put us in a weird room that was in a separate building and it really smelled like mold the entire stay. The staff was fine frankly quite unfriendly. Location is interesting but not so bad. Overall ok not good

Location was great, out of the hustle but not too far to walk maybe 20min a long beach. Budget hotel itself is very basic as the name suggests, but main hotel is pretty much right there which has great facilities.

Chaweng town center is quiet in morning, busy and noisy at night. Plenty of bars, restaurants available, in close proximity. Multiple money exchange booths available if you run out of cash. Samui Central (in Chaweng town center) is excellent - plenty of shops, cafes, restaurants, grocery/food hall outlet, clothes, electronics, etc. Close to markets if that is your thing. Live music in several locations. Just be careful walking on the sidewalk ... many, many trip hazards - watch where you walk. I found 'The Duke' bar good (a little south of main center on main road), both live music and good food. Aussie Bondi bar (good food), The Palms (live music).

We enjoyed the high end restaurants and would recommend Galanga, Prego and Sexy Fish. For evening entertainment the Ark Bar is always good and has had an amazing refurbish since I was last here 2 years ago. I didn't really go to the main beach this visit but have been before and it is good for swimming, sun bathing and long walks and of course water sports

Chaweng is the entertainment centre of Samui.
Chaweng is the entertainment centre of Samui.
It comes with the same tourist trappings that other developed coastal areas of Thailand have.
For the beach town expect to have masseurs and tailors offering their services every 10 steps, restauranteurs trying to hustle you into their over-priced establishments (compared with elsewhere in Thailand), and quite aggressive taxi people plus a dedicated red-light area where single gentlemen will find themselves being encouraged to go in the respective bars.
As per every other tourist centre, nobody assumes you speak Thai, and all assume you don't like spicy food.
As with everywhere else circa 2024 cannabis dispensaries are every 10 metres or so. For retail therapy there is even a Central shopping mall.
Beach side Chaweng there is lots of water sports available, and some resorts have permenant beach party set-ups (such as Ark Bar).
Some of the more expensive resorts come across as a little souless.
Would benefit from more genuine street food vendors selling food at normal Thai prices.

Chaweng beach is place for people who love to drink, parties. It's a place where you can choose what you gonna do every day and night and it will not the same. During day you can go for a boat trips or take a bus and discover island, go for a lunch and in the evening enjoying free time, drink beer or coctails, dancing. We were 2 for 3 days but it wasn't enough.

There are plenty of places to eat and enjoy life. The area usually awakens during the evening because during the day people are on the beach or on tours. Plenty of night entertainment whether you love live bands or clubbing it's all there for you.

great location on the beach and opposite the shopping and markets but the resort still felt quiet and peaceful, nice pool, staff very friendly, great food, breakfast was limited but delicious, the hotel offered drinks and straws in recyclable materials. Not many other hotels were doing this so well done to the Malibu as plastic trash is a problem on Chaweng beach.
We would stay again!
We stayed at Chaweng Garden Resort a week before, and then needed a one night stopover a week later for a flight out of Koh Samui. J4 absolutely met our needs. A modern clean room with all tge facilities we enjoyed previously. Great bathroom and shower. The room was compact to be fair, but absolutely fine for a short stay.
The hotel is directly on the beach and is small enough that it never feels crowded. It's on the quieter end of Chaweng (10mins walk to the busy, busy area) which was great for us.
We got a great deal on the hotel and didn't expect such a great resort for the price. The staff are really friendly and helpful.
For the money the hotel was brilliant, the location was great, right by the main strip, far enough out it was quiet as well. The staff were really friendly and helpful. Overall really happy with my stay. Will definitely be returning on my next trip to Koh Samui
