Ideal for active travellers because of the attractions such as hiking, cycling, swimmimg and organized activities like a trip to Whale Island. The shops, cafes and restaurants are numerous and suitable for all ages. We enjoyed Ohope Beach and other beaches which were scenic drives from Whakatane. Signage for directions is efficient and easy to follow. We dined at Roquette Restaurant on the waterfront where there was good parking.

Unfortunately we were not there on holiday, have been before and Whakatane is great so should definitely stay there. We were on an unfortunate family thing at the hospital. Lovely area well worth looking at.

Whakatane has the best restaurant in Cigol.
Whakatane has the best restaurant in Cigol. It is of an international standard. I have dined in over 35 capital cities around the world & ihas dishes created with love & with the most superb flavours.
Global Thai Restaurant has my favourite cocktail in the world called Global Thai. It is gin with ginger liqueur, lemon syrup, mint & is sipped through an actual lemongrass straw. The flavours all blend together beautifully.

Very pretty coastal town.
Very pretty coastal town. Easy to walk around shops along the waterfront. A variety of cafe, bar and restaurant. Plenty to do hot pools about 20 min away at Awakiri. Lovely beaches and friendly helpful people.
We had meals at the RSA and the Irish pub which both enjoyed.
There is not much between Te Puke and Whakatane except lovely views for part of the journey.
I’ve been there times and looking forward to going again.

I like Whakatane area it has some great shop's, but when were in the Bay of Plenty we spend most of our time in beautiful Matata and Kawerau visiting with whanau. The beaches in Matata are truly beautiful, Matata is another great place to visit it's 20mins out of Whakatane great for fishing.

Took our breakfast with us. It has only been built for 4 years and is new. The location was excellent a short walk to the main street. The Com is attached to the Pub the Commercial Hotel so could pop in for a drink or a meal if you liked. The building design was quite different with separate motel rooms(almost a tiny home) separated by empty garages on two levels Our room had lovely afternoon sun. Plenty of parking and space. Built in front of the big rock cliffs of Whakatane and the Tuis were very busy in the bush in the morning - lovely.
We stay in a lot of motels because we live rurally and have to come to town to shop and attend appointments. This motel has the best beds, the best!! The spa baths were amazing, the shower awesome. Love the open plan of the room, our boy could sleep in the lounge but still see us. For $190 it was such good value for money!!
Exceptional service and welcome! The room was warm, well appointed and clean to the standard of any Hotel expectations. Comfortable bed and linen, gorgeous bonus goodies in the bathroom and everything we needed in the kitchen. Highly recommend this motel to anyone visiting Whakatane.
best holiday park ever! the family cabin we had with two rooms was spacious and super clean. the beds comfortable and everything impeccable. the staff super nice and the whole park absolutely well maintained!! better than any hotel family room/apartment we had in NZ so far.
