Westport is a lovely funky little town with a museum and great spots to eat and meander about. If you're going to Westport - be sure to take in Cape Foul Wind - beautiful walkways and as true a rough rugged West Coast experience as you will get.

Westport has a lot to offer and one day was not enough.
Westport has a lot to offer and one day was not enough. There is really a lot to do and see and explore in this area. We went to Denniston Mine, walked on the Kawatiri trail by the harbor, the seal colony and the lighthouse. Tauranga Bay and the estuaries are worth exploring.

Westport has some lovely estuary walks where you can see herons, weka and stilts. There are many friendly cafes with good food. The prices everywhere are reasonable. You can do trips to see a lighthouse, seals, beaches. It is bike friendly. You can bike to all of these on a cycle path. Further afield Denniston and Coalbrookdale have 1 hour historic walks. Once Coal Town reopens in 2024 it will again have a museum.
Hosts very friendly and easy to talk to. Their local knowledge was great. Within walking distance of a very good restaurant with tasty food and also walked to the beach. The house and garden felt like home. Very quiet neighborhood which we liked. Only a short drive from westport. Would definitely stay again. Thanks
