A lovely historic villa off the beaten path in the far north with beautiful views of the Hokianga Harbour, close to Wairere Boulders and far from the hustle and bustle. Our hosts, Anthony and his wife were absolutely wonderfully hosts and we throughly enjoyed chatting with them over breakfast. Bed was supremely comfortable!

Absolutely charming little Harbour village with lots of history and gorgeous colonial style houses and buildings. Unfortunately a couple of stores are only open a few days of the week. Great take-away fish & chips, but don't leave it too late as only open until 7pm in the evenings.

found lots to do which suprised us. stayed all morning when we had planned to get away early. Great food at the Boat Shed overlooking the water. spent ages in a rather unique puzzle shop. Leave time to walk the boardwalk through the mangroves and visit the Heritage NZ house.

It is a small country town with a few facilities but best to stock up on your favourite essentials before entering, do not rely on fast food outlets - there is only a fish and chip shop , which we never managed to find open. Cafes and craft shops but they do close early

Quiet town, arrived via the ferry.

Quiet town, arrived via the ferry. Several places to get coffees but shut up tight for evening meals, even the pub was closed!! Maybe we were too early ( mid October ). Many wineries and other attractions didn’t open till NZ Labour Day. Lovely scenery on the back roads.

Everything is very simple But its the Upkeep of that simpleness that Makes it more admirable. The trip across the water on the barge is beautiful too, especially when the fog lifts. If you go right, (off the barge) you go to kohukohu, going left can take you to Motukaraka, a Marae is situated on the beach which can be seen from on the Barge.
