Hospitality of our hosts and the cottage had everything we needed. We enjoyed the sea views and ability to walk easily to a spectacular beach and stunning forest loop walk. Our hosts Mary and Fergus are vibrant with roots in art, conservation and tourism, and it was a highlight to meet them.

Amazing location to explore the Caitlin’s. Very cute cabin. Comfortable and clean. Good kitchen facilities which was important as there are no restaurants or shops very close to the area.

Our cabin, Kaku, surrounded by trees and birdlife, overlooked rolling green fields dotted with sheep and the surrounding hills. It was so peaceful. Within 2 minutes walk were magical forest paths lined with magnificent tree ferns, crown ferns and undisturbed vegetation. The cabin was beautifully decorated, and contained books on the area, games, a well equipped small kitchen with a barbecue on the balcony. The old house on the estate was built in the 1920s and creates a feeling of timelessness. The owners helpfully supplied local history and tourist information and were so welcoming. We would have happily stayed longer in this unique oasis of tranquility and nature and would recommend it to anyone who appreciates these special qualities.
Guests staying at Catlins Newhaven Holiday Park are a 5-minute walk from Surat Bay, a long sand beach in Newhaven, where you may be lucky enough to see a Hooker Sea Lion.

Although we didn’t see any wildlife, the staff were helpful in pointing out where they’ll likely be! Located a couple minutes walk from the beach.
Facilities are super clean! Shower takes a minute to warm up and are coin operated. I like that they are eco-conscious and use rainwater! Coins are given at checkout, one per person for 7 minutes.

Owaka is a very convenient location to tour the Catlins. Tess's place was very clean and the communication was very good. The parking was easy and close.

We also found a wonderful store that did Fabulous meals and very special decorated ice creams. Now we had been total there wasn't anything within 10 kilometers away.
This was within walking distance around the corner petrol too.

Remote and quiet location with good road access, beautiful views from the cottage, very comfortable, cozy and tastefully decorated. Everything is there for convenience, but you have to bring your own food, it was helpfully mentioned by ownwrs prior arrival.
A lot of walks in the area, waterfalls etc.
Books, board games, DVDs or just break from busy life - whatever taste.

Davids deck and the view are amazing.
Davids deck and the view are amazing. Bellbirds sining and peace and quiet.
Loved Lost Gypsy caravan and coffee beside it. Great place for kids and the Adult section well worth entry fee.
Cathedral caves and view from Florence hill exceptional. Lake Wilkie a treat. Papatowai has my vote for the best in the Catlins.
