Room was spacious, comfortable and warm. The bathroom had underfloor heating - wow! I visited during Polar Night (January) - outside weather always below -10C! Breakfast buffet was good - a great variety. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Mary-Ann's Polarrigg, hotel in Longyearbyen

Set in the Skjæringa area of Longyearbyen, Mary-Ann's Polarrigg is built with old rigs. Central Longyearbyen is between 6-8 minutes walk away and the airport bus stops right in front of the hotel.

Easily one of the most interesting hotels I've ever stayed in. On the airport shuttle bus, the driver described it as "the cutest little hotel in Svalbard," and he was absolutely right. Warm and cozy rooms, and a comfy lounge to relax in. The staff are all very friendly and helpful, and the location is very convenient – within easy walking distance from all the interesting locations in Longyeabyen. Breakfast is filling, and the restaurant serves an excellent dinner.

Svalbard Hotell | The Vault, hotel in Longyearbyen

Located in Longyearbyen, a 12-minute walk from Svalbard Church, Svalbard Hotell | The Vault provides accommodations with free bikes, free private parking, a shared lounge and a terrace.

First of all, this review is about the sister hotel, Svalbard Polfareren, as I was upgraded to this hotel at no charge, as the Vault was undergoing maintenance. The Polfareren Hotel was definitely upscale, super clean, with large, cozy, comfortable rooms, nice modern bathroom and appealing common areas, including a wonderful lobby lounge area with fireplace to relax, read, or enjoy a glass of wine. This location provides easy walking access throughout the delightful, small town feel of Longyearbyen, with restaurants, bars, shops and grocery market, all so close during the dark Polar Night strolls. As for the hotel breakfast, I travel a lot, and this breakfast spread was most enjoyable and offered the most complete selection of choices I have ever seen in my stays anywhere. Front desk staff was always available and helpful when needed. I would easily choose to stay at this hotel again.

Longyearbyen Apartment, hotel in Longyearbyen

Longyearbyen Apartment offers accommodations in Longyearbyen, a 12-minute walk from Svalbard Church and 0.8 miles from Svalbard Museum.

The location was wonderful and easy to access. It was convenient to the grocery store and bus pick ups. You do have to walk around the building and over the bridge to the visitor center where pick ups are located. The host was wonderful. Very responsive and attentive to our needs when we messaged him. The apartment was quiet, well insulated, had everything we needed minus a freezer. The heat worked extremely well and was more than efficient. The internet was extremely fast. The balcony was awesome with great views. As soon as you walked in you could take off your wet clothes and shoes and hang in the mud room. I would definitely stay here again and recommend this apartment to others. We stayed there 10 nights and the price was just right for our stay. It’s perfect for a family or friends as there were two separate bedrooms.

Longyearbyen is unlike any other place I've been.

Longyearbyen is unlike any other place I've been. I went during polar night, and dark season is an interesting experience when neither the Sun or Moon ever rise. Make sure to visit the museum, the Nordover gallery, and the brewery, and stop for coffee in Café Huskies. The cold is surprisingly manageable as long as you wear the right clothing. Make sure you layer up properly, and bring a good pair of gloves and some warm boots – walking is the easiest way to get around.

Longyearbyen seems to be a magnet for humans who find adventure in loving other humans. Nobody is "From" Longyearbyen. But those who venture there become instant family. Not everyone should even consider visiting. Those who will already know who you are, as you read this. Longyearbyen is not for the faint of heart, nor the shallow of spirit. RD

For both the natural history as well as lesson on the current situation of how global warming is impacting our planet, this is a perfect town to come and visit. The scenery and the geographical isolation makes it incredibly educational and joy to experience, and the scientific value of this community, including the global seat fault just south of the airport, as another value to a trip here. We particularly enjoyed our hotel, and the friendliness and responsiveness of the staff. The people here are incredibly friendly.

Its a small town in the arctic.

Its a small town in the arctic. To be fair theres little to do in the town with it being so small. Theres some nice shops, cafes and restaurants but again only a few as its a small place. The museum is worth a view. But the town is now a base for tourism through the year so a lot of time will be out and about doing the multitude of outdoor activity from northern lights, wildlife, boat tours and snowmobiles and multiple other outdoor activity so as a base its great. People are friendly, its very clean and what shops/cafes etc they have are very good.

Longyearbyen is a fascinating place for two or three days.

Longyearbyen is a fascinating place for two or three days. It is mainly for connecting with Arctic cruise ships, so there is a commercial-dock side to the town. They are trying very hard to encourage tourism and everything tourist-related is very efficient and tidy.

The city offers everything for a standard quality life.

The city offers everything for a standard quality life. Several companies offer great tours, for true arctic experiences, accompanied by knowledged guides. The supermarket is surprisingly well stocked, even with fresh fruits and vegetables. Plenty od restaurants for every taste. And don't forget to visit the museum!

Very tidy and cosy guesthouse. It is located in a residential area, so if you wish to experience what life is like on Svalbard it is a much better choice, than staying in one of the hotels on the main street of Longyearbyen. Elena, the host is always there to help and always has a kind word for everyone. Can't wait to stay there again!
