Weligama, with its enchanting coastal charm, offers an array of memorable spots that can become instant favorites for any visitor. Among these, the picturesque Weligama Bay stands out, renowned for its gentle surf and panoramic views, making it an idyllic spot for both surfers and those looking to soak in the serene beach atmosphere. Another favorite is the iconic Taprobane Island, accessible at low tide, offering a unique glimpse into a secluded and luxurious retreat with its lush tropical gardens and historical mansion.
Dining in Weligama is a delightful experience, with a plethora of options ranging from local street food stalls serving delectable seafood and traditional Sri Lankan fare, to more upscale dining experiences by the beach, where you can enjoy fresh, grilled seafood while watching the sunset. The Roti Shop, a quaint local eatery, is particularly notable for its mouthwatering selection of rotis filled with an array of flavors, providing a taste of local cuisine that's both authentic and affordable.
Getting around Weligama is relatively straightforward, thanks to its compact nature and the availability of various transport options. Tuk-tuks are ubiquitous and offer a convenient and economical way to explore the town and its surroundings. For those looking to cover longer distances or explore at their own pace, renting a scooter or a bicycle can be an excellent choice, providing the freedom to discover hidden gems along the coast.
On a subsequent visit to Weligama, one might consider avoiding the more crowded, commercialized spots during peak tourist season, to preserve the tranquil experience that Weligama is known for. Additionally, being cautious about engaging with overly persistent vendors or unofficial tour guides can help avoid any uncomfortable situations, ensuring a more enjoyable and authentic experience of this beautiful coastal town.

Relaxing beach for surfing, beach walks, beach games & family time together.
Safe beach area & you get lots of nice cafes and restaurants to try out with a good range of food & drinks with music to enjoy. We really enjoyed Ceylon Sliders as our brunch spot & Cheeky monkey for dinner with some super cool music. Kurumba bay is super cool too for a range of food choices.

You go to Weligama to learn surfing, or otherwise use the beach.
Otherwise the place is maybe a bit too chaotic, dirty, and loud for European travellers ;)
There is garbage collection, but still a lot of garbage is lying around and ending up in the sea.

Weligama is small town.
Weligama is small town. We lived little outskirts in rural area, Weligama is cheaper than other distinations such as Mirissa nearby. However if one needs to party and need restaurants then you cannot find many at Weligama.
We were looking for quiet, relaxed and comparitively cheaper 15 days break between our two months vacation and Weligama helped us with same. Mirissa beach is more better and lively than Weligama Beach. However small section of beach near Cape Weligama resort via Kumbalgama junction is quiet and peaceful.
Having your own or rented vehicle is definitely plus point or else one has to hire Tuktuk to Mirissa which may cost 1000-1400 LKR To and Fro dependinging on your bargaining skills.
Once can definitely go to both mirissa, unwatuna and galle from Weligama on day excursions.

The blue Haze Weligama was a pleasure! The staff is very polite, helpful and service minded! We felt like home! We stayed at blue haze for two nights, the room was clean and big with nice and comfortable bed! The location is good, nice and quiet. About 10 minutes walk to the closest beach, Jungle beach! There is cute restaurants on the way and friendly people. The breakfast was the best breakfast we have got since we got to Sri Lanka (look at the pictures) we do really recommend the blue haze! We should definitely go back here 😃
Great price/value ratio! Comfortable room with A/C and hot water. Super cozy beach without people just in front of the hotel. Still very easy to get to Weligama center (20 min walk by the seashore or 3 min by tuk-tuk). Great and friendly staff, that gives enough attention to every guest and always ready to help.
Initially we intended to stay for 1 week, but prolonged our stay for an extra week and enjoyed every day of our vacation:)
This was the best thing about our stay in Sri Lanka, the excellent management and service, the variety of entertainment facilities, the hotel knew we were on our honeymoon and prepared a complimentary dessert and decorated with rose petals. The beach is right downstairs, the pool is heated and never cold at night, and the restaurant has the best quality food in the area.
Really beautiful view from the rooftop restaurant, a la carte breakfast which was the best we have had in Sri Lanka (it has Mexican vibe to it). Room lookend exactly like in the picture, which is also rare in Sri Lanka 🤣 Overall a nice and cool hotel.
The hotel overlooking the sea right on the best surfing beach. Probably best noise isolation in whole Sri Lanka, so you can really relax at night not hearing the buses running.
