The city is quite beatiful and faithful to traditional architecture which I liked most. The streets were clean and people were friendly. However, it seems a bit out out-of-date in terms of serving at the department stores and bazaars.

Amazing city , You have couple of tourist destination better to plan you day early and travel guide with a taxi would be ideal as most areas are far flung from the city except the parks and museums which are closer to city

There isn't a great deal to do here.
There isn't a great deal to do here. The city has parks and the city centre is neat and tidy, so you can relax. Also November probably isn't a good month, so in the summer the parks will be in bloom. Almost nobody seems to speak English which can be frustrating when you want information about travel, for example. The Visit Shymkent offices are invariably closed (either near Shymkent Plaza or in the Grand Hotel) though if you catch one open, someone will try to help. A trip to Turkestan is just about worth the hassle but arranging transport might be difficult.

Lovely city with friendly people.
Lovely city with friendly people. Lots of cafes, restaurants, and ice cream vendors. It is very hot in summer, but the city is fool of parks and boulevards with trees. It is a great place to explore the south of Kazakhstan, Turkestan is 3 hours away in train.

The hotel is located in a great location to explore the city. The staff is also super friendly and accomodating. One really gets what is needed. The rooms are spacious and clean. They even have small balconies, that we didn't use as they were not really nice to sit on, given that there is a busy road outside. But perfect for smokers. We also were just tranziting Shymkent and didnt knew much about it, the ladies from the tourist office were helpful and arranged us with a guide who gave us a great tour around the city.
This hostel is owned from City Hotel Group, that means this hostel has very good experience with accommodation. They are well organized.The receotionist are very kind and helpful.Facilities are perfect, location is perfect!
Very close to cafes, restaurants and shopping malls, l strongly advice to have tea ör cafe and very tasty cake at Dana Patisserie very close to the hostel
It was a sparkly clean apartment in a quiet location, only walking distance to the shops and cafes and very close to the CBD. Our host was very lovely and helpful. She went above and beyond to provide everything we needed. If we are back to Shymkent, we’ll definitely stay at her place again.
The hotel is very nice and ornately decorated inside. The atrium is beautiful. The pool was great for the kids, especially given the windy and rainy weather we had.
Our bedroom was a large family suite on the 5th floor. It was mostly very comfortable.
