Kashoutei Hanaya, hotel in Noboribetsu

Featuring natural hot-spring baths and fresh Japanese meals, Kashoutei Hanaya Ryokan offers spacious rooms overlooking the Oyunuma River.

Incredibly comfortable, delicious food included with local seasonal ingredients prepared beautifully. Free draft beer and Sake until 5pm was an unexpected bonus. Staff were friendly and helpful. Onsen was incredibly relaxing, particularly when surrounded by snow. Not a large onsen, but that means more privacy. They are also accepting of tattoos, unlike most other onsen nearby. Japanese room was comfortable with decent view, futon was surprisingly enjoyable to sleep on. Could not rate Hanaya higher.

Yumoto Noboribetsu, hotel in Noboribetsu

Yumoto Noboribetsu is located in Noboribetsu Hokkaido, a 15-minute drive from JR Noboribetu Train Station. The hotel offers hot-spring baths, a restaurant, a tea lounge, and rooms with satellite TV.

We stayed for 2 nights, enjoyed breakfast buffet and in-room dining gaiseki during our stay. The kind lady who served our dinner on the first night remembered us and our room number when we walked in for our breakfast on our departure day. It was very touching because this kind of detailed service is only expected in 5-star hotels. Front desk and sauna/onsen staffs were also very professional and helpful. The onsen was really big enough even it seems quite popular amongst day-visitors. What we most liked was the calm and quiet breakfast buffet - there was no hassle with tour groups like other big hotels in Noboribetsu.

Stayed only one day, it was enough for onsen and Hell Valley, but we didn't get to do everything. The winter is amazing! It's very cold but rewarding. (Especially when it snowed.) Would have stayed another day so we get to visit the bear park and Lake Toya. The Hell Valley has a very sulfuric smell, it doesn't smell too nice, but it's bearable.

Noboribetsu is a small tourist oriented town surrounded by lush mountains and walking distance away from the source of hot spring water that brings to you the Japanese Onsen experience. Mind the occasional smell of sulfur. Getting there via train and bus is not difficult but can be crowded during peak travel seasons. Food quality was always excellent and the hotel’s buffet covered local and western appetites. Noboribetsu Date Historic Village is about 14 minutes away and is worth visiting. A fun learning experience for the whole family.

Shikotu Toya National Park is wonderful, so much to see and explore. The onsen at the Grand hotel were amazing, very relaxing. I would have liked to visit the Ainu museum at Shiroai, but we didn't have time. The Cultural exchange centre near Noboribetsu Station was very interesting though, and they had excellent ice creams.

The hot baths, buffet breakfast with many local delicacies and location, being just beside the Hell Valley is worth experiencing. However, pricing may be a bit steep for the size of the room we stayed.

The hotel is huge and rooms are spacious and well-designed. We enjoyed the experience and food selections, as well as the onsen. The hotel is located close to Jigokudani and the shopping street. Most of all, transport to the hotel from Sapporo was free and very convenient.
