Kyoto is a bit calmer than Tyoko with just as much to see, temples, shrines, bamboo Forrest, geisha and amazing shopping. There is even an imperial palace. The public transport is not quite as convenient as tokyo

Kyoto itself has so many hidden gems that you wouldn’t even know they were there. Small places without signs that turn into wonderful dining experiences and friendly people.
I would suggest at least 7 days and choose one or two temples/shrines to see. The gardens are all beautiful.
Food will change your view of food for a long time to come I think.

Kyoto is beautiful.
Kyoto is beautiful. I recommend staying somewhere closer to Nakagyo Ward if you're after activity. I staying in Shimogyo Ward which is walking distance from Nakagyo Ward.
For the second hotel, I stayed in Minami Ward was felt further away from sight seeing that I would have preferred, but it was still a beautiful experience.
Both places I stayed at were subway adjacent and made travel easy.

Turned out not to be too crowded, and very pleasant to be among the other visitors, a cultural experience in itself. The temples, parks, shrines and pagodas are beautiful and visiting it all is easy. We had either a guide or a driver, and that worked super well. Driver even showed us a few special spots that were not on any list or descriptions we heard of. We ate a great variety of food: Japanese; Italian pasta; lovely pizza place; terrific pastry restaurant for breakfast, Thai food, all different and wonderful.

Most beautiful place in Japan where the ancient history of Japan comes to life. Amazingly beautiful places like Kiyomizu Dera, Fushini Inari Taisha and Kinkaku-Ji temple. Should definitely keep 3 days in Kyoto to properly cover all the places.

I love Kyoto especially in December Autumn, love to see the foliage and weather not so cold. The historical buildings and streets are well blended into autumn scenery. Also convenient to tour around with the city bus and train. Lots of great food around too.

The location is the best. You can easily go to enywhere in Kyoto by taking the subway close to the hotel and just 2 stops from Kyoto station.
You can walk to Kamo river to take a deep breath and walk a little bit to gion area. No worry about the food, there're a ton of groceries and restaurants around the hotel and the Nishiki market is just 3 minutes walking from the hotel. The staffs are so great, they are helpful. I felt so comfortable here and need to stay 10 days more.
Amazing hotel one of the best we have stayed in up to now for facilities. The location was great as close to the station so transport good to other parts of the city. They have a coin washing machine and dryer to use and a room with water, ice and microwave. In the foyer they have a selection of creams, hair products and other little freebies. It’s also right next to some good local restaurants where you will see folk queue at all times of the day.
The room was very spacious and comfortable, design is comfy, very clean. We loved the ground floor area with lounges, a bar. It's just 2 minutes walk from Kyoto Station, that made convenient transportation everywhere, in and out of Kyoto. Kind surprise treats from the hotel, made our stay a 10. Breakfast is best quality. Our favourite stay in our Japan trip
The best hotel during our trip to Japan. Literally opposite the Kyoto Station with 2 mins walk. Room condition was good and the public bath was a big plus, especially after a long day of walking. Facilities are also good.
Beautiful Japanese style hotel. We enjoyed our stay there very much! Once of the best hotels we had in Japan. In a close proximity it the main station, walking distance to almost everywhere. I can just recommend
