Nice property with some good coffee. Rooms are clean and ours was family room so more space with private bathroom. Brace up yourself if you visit in the end of Dec as it’s cold (the owner sent us notification) and the staff try to do their best to keep you warm. Did do the night excursion to the cemetery and it was awesome - the Buddhist monk was the guide and he did it great. Strongly recommend to stay at this place if you want to visit Koyasan but didn’t find vacant places/wish to stay at temples

Staying at the temple was a delightful experience.
Staying at the temple was a delightful experience. The food was different but very good, and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Attending the morning prayer was another highlight, providing a truly memorable experience. The location was excellent, being very close to the bus stop. The staff were extremely nice and accommodating, allowing us to drop off our luggage before the check-in time. Although everything was great, I personally didn't like the heater in the room. I think it uses some kind of oil, and for me personally, the oil smell was a little too strong. Next time, I would prefer a room with an attached washroom. Since it's an old temple, it doesn't have central heating, which is understandable, but it gets a little cold outside of the room when going to use the washrooms. The rooms aren't that comfortable, but we already knew that since we went for the experience, not for comfort. Just wanted to add that!

We ended our 3 week trip to Japan with 2 nights in Koyasan at a buddhist temple. It was a magical place, completely different from everything we had visited in Japan beforehand.
The temples with their architecture, the local food and the kind locals really made this an unforgettable experience.
On our last day we went for a hike on the Women´s trail, had a great lunch close to the Daimon gate and took a 2h walk through the Okunoin cementary which is one of the most incredible places I have been so far.
Go without any expectations and it will be the a unique experience!

We stayed at the Joki-in temple for 1 night, right in the center, on October 13.
The town was very crowded with foreign tourists - funicular, bus, shrines, parks, restaurants. The various sites are interesting to visit, but you are not alone. On the way back from Daimon gate, we left the main road and walked in the part of the town where people live. We were alone and enjoyed the walk.
We walked to see the Okunoin cemetery at night: there were very few people and it was really interesting. I suppose most tourists just come for the day because of the bedrooms' high prices the well-located temples.

Meeting people like Tommy and staying at his Guest House is the best part of traveling around the world. His warmth, sincerity and dedication to professionalism is contagious. Staying at his place gave my husband and I such joy. His lodges are near a bus stop, centrally located within walking distance of all the attractions, and charming. He has all of the needs for travelers who want to stay in a clean location where they can rest; enjoy their own private onsen (a great bath and shower area) and finally, sleep like a baby underneath starched and ironed sheets. (Who still does that? … someone at Tommy’s Guest House.) Book well in advance for this gem.

Koyasan's a beautiful place. We had a lovely stay.
Koyasan's a beautiful place. We had a lovely stay. There's an amazing cemetery and temple, definitely the best place. Doing shukubo's a great experience I recommend doing. Keep in mind that it can get suuuuper cold at night, so you should bring suitable clothes. It was hard to find restaurants to have dinner in. We had a late dinner and it was quite hard to manage. You should go thinking you have to eat your dinner at six o'clock. The temples close their doors quite early and you can't enter once they close, so you should have that in mind as well. The buses are good too, but very strict with punctuality (a bus litterally left in our faces and it was the last one and we had to walk). A short stay is good since you can see pretty much all in a day. We arrived at 1pm and left the other day at 10am and it was great. Everything in Koyasan is super quiet and chill.

The train and cable car were thrilling.
The train and cable car were thrilling. The forest surroundings gave the town a cozy feel and kept the air so fresh.. The English Guide Club provided a very knowledgeable guide, Mayumi. I learned much more than what you find in books. The burial site is really amazing - a must see. There are some great coffee shops too. It's worthy of a repeat visit.

This property offers a unique experience, staying at a Buddhist Temple. The half board inclusion is Japanese vegan food, reflective of what the priest and monks eat every day. It was well prepared and enjoyable.Although they don’t consume alcohol it can be purchased at a reasonable price during dinner. The spacious accommodation is operated by trainee monks who were very friendly and make us feel most welcome.
Amazing Dinner Buddhist vegetarian in a traditional very wonderful setting. Private bath tub in Juinior Suite with view to tres and forest. Morning Prayer and Meditation in temple 7-8 am. Second visit after 7 years - still fascinating and I would return again. It seems to be the most stylish option for temple stay in Koyasan.
While outwardly simple
‘pilgrim lodgings’ it’s hard to tell Eko-in from a top notch ryokan or hotel. The rooms are superb, the location glorious, the food wonderful and the service exemplary. On top of this you have the lovely spiritual element.
Traditional shukubo located centrally in KoyaSan. It felt like stepping back in history and the staff couldnt be more polite despite us speaking very little Japanese
